Major League Baseball's "Cleveland Indians" are changing their name to "Guardians". Good name, IMHO. The intention to change the name was apparently announced in December, but somehow I missed that. I wonder if the Atlanta Braves will follow suit soon. https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/23/us/cleveland-major-league-baseball-name/index.html
I was hoping they would revive the name “Cleveland Spiders.” But this is okay too, if a bit generic. I wonder if there are any local or historical associations with the name.
The fragile white folks are having shrieking meltdowns all over every Ohio news outlet's Facebook page today.
I am not the people offended, so this opinion is not worth shit. You root for the indians, so I got a positive vibe from it. Again I am really good with the change as the people named do not see it that way. Perspective obviously matters and should be noted. Any trite conflict I might feel with the reason is only a note because I just want Native Americans to know I wish they had more influence on our society.
LOL, Ted Cruz tried to pretend renaming the team was racist against Indians, because he's a cunt (and the Zodiac killer).
It's good to know that half of our government is made up of people who never advanced mentally beyond "In rubber, you're glue" and "I know you are but what am I?"
Cleveland Cougars would've been a good name too. Or Leopards or Vultures or any cool PLURAL name. AT LEAST they're not changing the team name to a singular name like Heat or Jazz. Doing THAT would've been outrageous.
Why not call themselves the clevelanders? If you wanted something that was about the place they call their home, then ......
I know a guy who actually went to UC Santa Cruz, home of the Banana Slugs like on Vincent's shirt in Pulp Fiction.
I'd have gone with the Cleveland Savages. Maybe make Christopher Columbus the mascot so people don't get the wrong idea.
