Maybe not all the way down, but I definitely hung around the entrance. I even unironically bought Glenn Beck's "Arguing With Idiots" I also bought into that "Dems don't care about blacks" manipulation that a lotta us West Coast raised blacks fell into as a consequence of having relative amounts of peace in our lives and bought into death panel crapola. It wasn't until BLM really started pulling the curtain on the bucket of buried history that I really took a hard look at that and became "the most racist person on Wordforge," since I was...yanno...the last regular black poster here.

Not sure what it is supposed to be but it has Obama on a pedestal holding the flag improperly (taking it down?).

And I’m not sure when it has ever been used so…

It's been used. One would probably have to go back to around '09 to see it in threads, but I do remember various posters using it.

The continued existence of the Catholic church means that the pedo smilies don’t need to go anywhere.

I didn't (well, not all of them, at least), but precisely the fact that the board ganged up on him, and that he was generally ridiculed and despised didn't exactly make me see this as a place where racism thrived.

Of course, a different question is whether "let them talk, despise and ridicule them" is a good way to deal with racists, and the answer, I guess, is usually "no". But this naive trust in free speech was pretty much in this boards foundational DNA.

Tasvir is Indian and handicapped. He was also very young.

We played a part of his social construct.

Which came first: ridicule or his act?

Wait. Didn't you go fucking ape-shit crazy a while back because I said something very similar. Oh, wait. I know ..... I was talking about white people. It's ok if racism isn't at the foremost of every black person's mind. But, it must always be at the forefront of every white person's mind.

Mind you, when I said it, I was speaking of humans, not black people vs white people. So, if that makes the difference ....

honestly... it really ought to be something white (and light) people keep highly aware of/for.
sure as shit it's something we have to be a LOT more open to considering when we're called out over unconscious biases coming into play during otherwise mundane interactions.

I agree completely. The comment to which I was referring was in response to something like ..."white people don't care about racism". I said basically the same thing Anna said and then said the same thing you just said - that the reason for CRT in classrooms is to make people aware. And Anna's response above only adds more confusion as to what she thinks that conversation was about.

Agree with @Ancalagon about the racist smileys but now you're just being overly-sensitive.

Nothing wrong with most of those smileys (other than Oreo). Just rename them to take the offensive 'tard part out.

I have to agree. The mental associations we make do need to be consciously challenged due to the prejudices that our upbringing and environment causes to be formed. It is not just with black people, we also do a hell of a number on females in society. Yes, even the people who prejudice works against can get these same racist associations. So it is very possible for black people to actually be racist against black people and not know it, or perhaps even knowingly do it.

I have to agree with WAB here. The use of tard is something we should put to rest at the nearest convenience. Looking at donald trump and the trumpanzees I really do not want to associate them with people who have down's syndrome or some sort of learning disability.

I know it is a bit of work, and I would help, but you most certainly need to keep me out of any position that would cause people to have to not ignore me. Maybe @Amaris could help? Big hugs and warm pony sparkles! Seriously i will come up to where you are and buy you a drink if you want.

I mean between Candance Owens, Hermann Cain, Larry Elder, Ben Carson and Diamond & Silk among others, there's a lot of self-loathing ass mofos out there.

In my case, I was raised by a mixed mom who herself was raised by a white mom who kept her largely sheltered from the world outside of church in her formative years. There was a lot of things she was always gonna be blind to, like the fact that the most interaction many black folks have with whites aren't pleasant and usually involved someone in positions of authority--including my black grandparents.

Add to that, being a generation removed from civil rights in the most progressive state also added its own bubble. My parents' generation all ran to the white suburba the minute they were legally allowed to, fracturing many of the black neighborhoods. Kids my age grew up having white friends and thought nothing of it.

Its....complicated, really. But it's certainly not the place of those outside of a minority group to cluck their tongues about internalized racism. Like, @Captain X baffles me to the core but I would never call him an apple the way Liet called me an oreo.
