Upcoming from Amazon Prime - Stallone plays a retired superhero who was thought dead after going missing in a climactic battle 25 years ago. Now, a young kid realises the mysterious old guy he encounters might just be the missing hero of legend.

Apparently, this originated as a spec script and has been delayed so long due to COVID they released a line of graphic novels in the meantime. Haven't been able to find any examples online.

Oh, and he has been in superhero movies.
    Two!
Guardians 2 as Starhawk, and Suicide Squad as King Shark.

Sorry D. I drank too much and forgot who the master is.

I won't lose my lightsaber again, I promise.

I definitely won't try and bury you in rocks so you have to throw them at me and then slash my helmet.

No, thanks for jogging my memory that this existed.
It was delayed so long, I assumed it died.

Are those actually heroes,, and does Judge Dredd count for nothing?

Dredd was about as much of a superhero as Batman's credit card. Was Rocky a superhero, because he was a classic hero. Rambo seems to have wolverine's and deadpool's healing factor. Does being able to get shot and survive make one a superhero if those powers are not delineated as magical by cannon?

It depends on where you draw the line.

I considered it...but Judge Dredd is tricky.
Are me meant to think of him as a hero, or as a British satire on fascism?
Course, the ones I named are ethically iffy too.
But, at least they're powered, and therefore clearly super.
But Robocop is part of a political satire, and he's clearly a hero, and super, and based on Judge Dredd.
But Robocop is both a victim of and resister of the system.
I mean, he upholds the law, but he's no friend of OCP.
Count Judge Dredd if you like, I struggle with it.
The deciding factor for me, was quality of the flick.
I much prefer the Karl Urban version.

Haven’t seen the remake, but otherwise I agree.

I'm torn on Dredd. The whole "Fifteen years to train a Judge and you can still fail even on your last day at the Academy" thing, plus the gadgetry, kinda ties with Batman. But then EVERY Judge gets that, so if we say Dredd is Batman then he's just a very good Batman among a load of Batmen and Batwomen. And Psi-Batmen.

I enjoyed it well enough, it wasn't hammy which would have been the failing I expected if there was one. No classic or anything but fine. Might suggested the guy who found the hammer chewed the scenery a bit too much.

Not every movie needs to be the best ever. I will give it a watch on movie night.

I found it a solid presentation that contented itself to be what it was without climbing up its own ass to make a statement about something nobody asked. Saw the "twist" coming, but it's hard to surprise jaded consumers these days. I miss movies like this.

I enjoyed it. Reminded me a bit of the Last Action Hero, but mostly because there was an annoying kid with an 80s action hero. A solid 2 hour popcorn movie, but not something you'll feel you missed if you didn't see it.

I hate films where you figure out THE BIG TWIST right at the beginning.

Still, there are worse ways to spend 100 minutes. I was mildly entertained, even if I had already figured out exactly what was going to happen and when the big reveal would take place.

Hey, you know what Stallone actually has never done?
    Sword and sorcery!
Arnie answered Rambo with Commando, but Sly never did his answer to Conan.
Sly's Italian, you'd think he would have been a shoo-in for some Spaghetti-wood Hercules.

Arnie's also, AFAIK, never done porn like Stallone.
