Trade away your franchise QB, who has an incredibly bad season for the Broncos, come away with multiple top draft picks, reclaim a QB who was considered done and turn him into an excellent one in your system, and still make the playoffs. I'm a Rams fan, and I have to give him props.
In any sport, trading a great player always runs the risk of trading them too soon (see the Reds' trade of Frank Robinson to the Orioles) or too late. The great baseball man Branch Rickey said it was better to trade a player a year too soon, than a year too late. Trading a player at exactly the right time is damn difficult.
