I mean, of all places, I wasn't expecting to find them being awful people in a thread about a children's movie.

None of the games have had interesting stories, so I am not expecting much from this movie. Mario has always been about gameplay.

What they really need to do is a live action Metroid series and and an animated Zelda series (high quality this time, not that junk from the 80s).

They did a great job adapting Castlevania into an animated series and they could do the same with Zelda.

A live action Metroid movie with a hot blonde playing Samus could do well if properly written.

Yea, but where are they going to find a male hero that can keep his mouth shut to play a live action Link?

Just saw it with a friend. It surprisingly paid the Hoskins Mario quite the homage, and did it well.
We were pleasantly surprised with how the Damsel in Distress trope was handled.
Disappointed in the lack of Daisy, Wario, and Waluigi, and outside of the shoutout to Ludwig von Koopa, lack of Koopalings.
Very surprised, and happy, that Guiseppe made it in, considering I think he was only in the Dorkly animated sketches.

I've done my due diligence and directed my friend to the SNL Elon Musk Wario sketch and the Pedro Pascal Mario Kart sketch, as well as the Dorkly sketches, and the web series There Will Be Brawl. She's on it like a blue shell on first place.

I know it was a little late, but this movie was great fun. It is now on Peacock.

I even watched it with an older person who found it fun despite knowing nothing about the video game. He thought the plot was good, and the action sequences were fun. The humor was there for him despite not knowing any of the references.

Mario was fine with an understated brooklyn style accent. Normally I hate Jack Black, but he was exactly what I thought Bowser would sound like. Even his singing did not bother me.

Peach was a bit OPed, but it made sense given her backstory. There were so many nostalgic details, and the plot did not try to make it not a video game. I do like that they dropped her as the damsel and put her in as a female lead that kept up with mario. They did backseat her during the kong fight when it would have made much more sense for her to battler, but it was Mario's movie. He needed to show some moves at that point and get a victory.

I like that the movie never let you sit and think about the mechanics. It was always doing something. Maybe the beginning was a bit slow, but once they got to marioland things were moving right along.

This was how you do a mario movie.

I cannot see the purpose of a sequel, rather they should do another franchise like this.

Metroid would be hard to do for the same reason zelda would be hard to do. They are lone hero games. I remember being so immersed in metroid because you are so alone in the game. I am talking about the original and super because that is where I ended my console gaming. Even Zelda was just link. That works as a video game, but you would have to add things that weren't there for meaningful dialog.

This is why I would think Final fantasy would have been more adaptable as you had a team that would make a good cast.

Yes, I know that there were comics people liked, but most people are not going to sit around for a single person movie. Zelda you could add in a game character for link to work with, but the whole point of metroid is Samus is alone. It would be like the end of aliens type of situation. Lack of dialog kills a movie for most viewers. I just think they would disappoint greatly because they had such a mood to them that would be killed. Or you would end up doing the Doom thing to them,.

It's a fun film, you want a Super Mario movie you have a Super Mario movie. Kinda interesting they kinda rounded the corners and avoided some of the usual cliche beats in this kind of storyline. E.g. nobody turns their back on Mario, the tide isn't definitively turned on Bowser by means of a clever Chekov's gun (e.g. if they'd tricked him into eating a blue mushroom).
