That pretty well sums up my own opinion of a lot of Christians (I'm not willing to paint with the broad brush that several participants in this thread are using). To me, a Christian is someone who honestly attempts to live according to the teachings of Jesus. Sadly, that describes only a fairly small percentage of those who claim to be Christians.

This issue isn't whether or not they follow the teachings of christ. the issue is that a lare group of people, under the guise of religion, are doing very evil things.

From the outside, no one cares if "they're true christians" or not. They have claimed that title. if someone is a christian (actually follows the teachings of christ) and do not like the idea that this group of poeple have co-opted that title, then those someones need to speak up - loudly. on mass media. If they say nothing, then it's hardly the fault of outsiders that all christians are painted with the same broad brush.

I'm still not a believer and can't honestly think of anything that could ever change that, but if you are, then the Bible says that most people will follow false teachings and it is a very small number who will be saved. Unfortunately that means most people's exposure is what we see now, corruption, vice and hate. There's a LOT of evil being done in Christ's name these days.
