You're doing a good job of holding the rage tears in for a change.
Now just keep doing that for Red Room.

It’s hard for me to rank Crystal skull because the first half was probably the best we ever were going to get with Spielberg at the helm and it felt like Indiana Jones, mostly. Then the second half just fell apart.
With Destiny, the first half is about as good as you can get without Spielberg so if you could somehow combine the two and come up with a different mcguffin that was closer linked with history or mythology then I think that would be a better send off other than the perfect one we already got. So if I had to choose, I think Destiny is a better overall movie than Crystal Skull, but that’s not saying much.

That would be fine if he was just going to retire, I’m sure we’d all be tempted, but he was dying from a bullet wound. He should have been telling her to get him the hell out of there.

As he said, he's been shot 9 previous times. So there's a possibility/probability that he knew he could come back from the 10th. Or there's a possibility that he thought he was a goner and wanted to go out on his own terms in history while not slowing down the folks who did need to go back to the future. Either way, it's plausible that he wanted to stay and for them to get the heck out of there before the fissure closed. In either case, it doesn't seem like he was overshadowed by Wombat to me.

He's our hero, he's not supposed to just give up. It makes him look weak and cowardly, something we know he's not. I know Marion was probably divorcing her, but to just leave her behind, I don't think so.

Fucks sake, if Heather Thomas had a moment of awesome in this show at Lee Majors' expense, FF's dick would be weeping blood.

    @Bill Carson

One more thing about “Indy being upstaged” and then I’m going to drop it.
I just watched the first hour of ROTLA and not for nothing, if that’s how you feel about DOD, then you could say the same about Marion in the first movie. By no means is she portrayed as a damsel in distress. She gives as much as she gets and sure, there are a few points where Indy saves her, but she pulls his fat out the fire a time or two as well. Now that I think about it, say what you want about George Lucas, but given the way he portrayed Princess Leia & Marion, I’d say he liked strong willed women who exerted themselves in his stories.

It was okay. Better than Crystal Skull. I’ve always loved the pseudo-archaeology stuff.

I am not sure what to think of the time travel. It might have worked better if that scene was much shorter. Just give a quick glimpse and then back to the 60s. Could have been more subtle but I liked the idea of Indy actually getting to see history play out.

The original movies all had some supernatural elements… the spirits inside the Ark, the cup of immortality, the life-giving Sankara stones and the evil priest ripping peoples hearts out…

The last two veered more into sci-fi. First we saw actual aliens and then actual time travel. Maybe that is appropriate considering these are set in the 50s and 60s rather than the 30s and 40s?

I don’t know. Overall there was nothing about DoD that I really hated, so that definitely puts it over Crystal Skull and possibly over ToD.

Crystal Skull had awful dialogue, Shia Lebouf, the monkeys, the nuking the fridge scene, and the over the top alien reveal. Again, the alien scene should have been much shorter. Maybe just a quick glimpse.

ToD had the insect scene which I still to this day cannot watch (I hate insects like Indy hates snakes) and the sickening banquet scene which, IMO, was very racist and ignorant. Didn’t mind Willy Scott.

But my main question… is the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles still canon? Because that show was great. Very high quality and great backstory for Indy.

The jokers on this board won’t believe it, but I too like strong women in movies too. I grew up in a matriarchal family with positive female and male role models. What Disney seems to be doing or at least Lucasfilm, is the strong female characters are there to the detriment of the male characters. We see this in modern Trek as well. Star Wars, Rey is the greatest at everything, Luke is a sad old man because getting old means you’re sad. Rey is better than Han because Han is sad old man. Picard, Raffi puts down Picard and Picard is a sad old man. Indiana Jones, Helena is the best at everything, Indy is a sad old man. In Raiders, Marion is his partner. She helps Indy during fights, especially the one with the big Nazi guy. Even in Strange New Worlds Spock tells Ortegas to fly into the debris field and she questions his order, presumably because he’s a man. Do you think Janeway would tolerate that from Tom Paris? It’s never Aye, aye sir, it’s always a quippy comeback. Uhura snaps back at the IT guys who are just doing their jobs and she’s an ensign. There’s no respect for rank, it’s always to the detriment of men, never equal partnerships like we saw in the past. That’s the difference.

Fuck's sake... "fly the ship into a bunch of floating shit that could REALLY FUCK US UP" gets a "she questions him because he's male!!!!"?

Is there actually a brain in that head of yours? At all?

If this was TOS and Spock was questioning Kirk's seemingly suicidal decision of the week, you'd be fine with it.

But because Ortegas is a woman, she's clearly only doing it because men are stupid and wrong and have to be undermined?

You seriously have some fucking issues, pal, despite your bullshit above.

"Uhura disrespects the men, instead of it being an equal partnership".

No, equal means women don't defer to men when it isn't deserved.

Those men were about to make a collossal fucking mistake, cutting the Enterprise off from all comms. If Spock had dressed them down for the same reason, you'd be fucking cheering. If Spock had dressed down a female comm tech, you'd probably be reaching for the tissues.

    Actually, just realised something.

FF hasn't bitched about Pelia showing Spock up yet.

Ortegas is Hispanic. Uhura is African.

Pelia is.. well, alien, but also white.

    Maybe sexism has its limits?

    It's SOME progress, I guess.

No it’s about chain of command. Spock in TOS is Kirk’s first officer, he’s allowed some leeway when Jim does something questionable. There are times when Kirk straight tells Spock that he’s made his decision and it’s final. Spock doesn’t follow up with a funny comeback. You’re right though, it is sexism, towards men.

Yeah, then how is it my friend who doesn’t watch YouTubers and is a liber, not a looney leftist, thought Helena was a horrible character who overshadowed Indy in places and thought the ending sucked?

Helena had an agenda that was radically different than Indiana Jones. If Indy weren’t there, she’d have died a few different times. If Helena weren’t there, Indy would’ve died a few different times. I don’t think that’s “showing him up” and even if it is, is it the worst thing in the world if a woman might have better judgement than a man in one or two particular instances? Does that diminish that man in your eyes? Even if that man is the widely accomplished Indiana Jones?

    Come on, dude.
