    They aren't liberals, you know.

And they rule, of course. Sleep now in the fire.

Screw all this chatter about Rage. I saw Ozomatli at a reggae-fest last summer with a nice contact buzz and they were a great time. No angst all groove, and bra-less hippy chicks as far as the eye could see. When I saw Rage it was all studs and black leather and bad attitudes - fuck that!

IMHO Rage's only remarkable performance is the ad infinitum screaming of FUCK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME! at the end of that one song. Other than that they're meh. Just another generic punk band.

RATM isn't a punk band. Nor is it generic.

    Not all of them, ahem...

Too many formerly relevant musicians think they absolutely have to constantly grace the public with their wisdom. Among the few who really have something to say are Buzz Osborne from the godlike Melvins and of course Maynard from Tool. Although the latter floats in completely different spheres anyway. Besides, he still makes music, doesn't suffer from a pathological sense of mission and doesn't think he's eaten wisdom with spoons.

    One Bono is enough.

you can't cite really John Lydon as being relevant though... ever in his career for that matter.
and Bono was never really much of a punk (Henry had a good bit about him around the time of Rattle and Hum).

although, yeah... Murray from Day-glo has gone a little around the bend after covid and the cancel culture scam. Fuckin guy is claiming turmeric has healed his cancer, but not the chemo...

What makes Rollins more relevant than Lydon?

In Europe, the influence of the Sex Pistols was ten times greater than that of obscure American punk bands like the Rollins Band. It doesn't really matter whether you think the Sex Pistols were "real punk" or not. Sure, they were just a kind of an artificial boy band (which is ironic...), but they definitely left their mark.

Punk is dead as a doornail anyway and lives at most as a cliché for some nostalgics. It was probably never more than that. The best thing that came out of American punk and hardcore musically are post-hardcore bands like the brilliant Crowbar. The whole sludge scene from New Orleans. Down, EyeHateGod, Corrision of Conformity, etc..., Kirk Windstein is still making music! Unlike others, lol...

But you probably just weight the political stuff higher than I do.
