Hey, if it's not for you, it's not for you!

There's a few genre shows that tried musical episodes, albeit I can't think of any pure sci-fi that did.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer did a pretty awesome one, although I don't think it would be as good if you were not familiar with the characters.

Riverdale sort of bleeds into sci-fi and has had a number of musical eps over the years.

And there was a Flash/Supergirl crossover that was a musical, which was interesting since their stars both were alums of Glee, and at least a couple of other regulars had Broadway in their backgrounds.

The soundtrack for Subspace Rhapsody is available in its entirety on Amazon Music, at no additional cost.

Ok! I watched the last few minutes I slept through the first time and I saw the Klingons. :rotfl:

Kind of puts a whole new connotation on the term “K-pop!”

Still not enough to change my feelings about this ep. Maybe they should’ve tried a few more comedic attempts?

I've been saying for ages that the ideal spot to bring back TOS was post-V'ger so I'm down (I was thinking animation most of that time though because the seal hadn't been broken yet on recasting the originals)

"That puts Wesley at playing a 33 year old., and the gap only widens in subsequent seasons."

Typo. Should read "That puts Wesley at mid-late 40's playing a 33 year old., and the gap only widens in subsequent seasons."

Should also mention, as I forgot to in my first reaction, that I'm pleased and intrigued that they are forwarding the Korby connection and setting up, presumably, this as a factor in the Spock/Chapel situation.

"High school drama club" is exactly the vibe this one gave me.

    "Under The Cloak of War"

Been away for the past two weeks so I'm binging the latest four episodes. Haven't got to the musical one yet, but season two is knocking it right out of the park.

One observation about "Under The Cloak of War" that I don't think anyone has mentioned in this thread yet is the constant announcement of "incoming transport" on the J'Gal station. Every transport means more casualties for M'Benga and Chapel to deal with. Absolutely brilliant screenwriting and what a subtle way to depict the horrors of war.

I mean......yeah, that's valid. I used to simp for Archer back in the day but damn it's nothing for the hots I have for Pike and Una :soma:

Between this cast and Tilly from DSC, modern Trek has unlocked bisexuality in me haha

Wow. Tilly? Really? She may have turned me off permanently. As did most of the rest of that show.

It's hip to celebrate dysfunctional people who defy "oppressive stereotypes" like mental stability, physical discipline, and the general ability to function like an adult in stressful situations.

Tell us again how the enbee ensign and the black captain are out to cut off your pee-pee by just existing.
I mean, dress it up in thesaurus words that make you sound like a wrestling babyface first, of course.

All you nerds who didn't like "Subspace Rhapsody" need to pull the sticks out of your arses, get on your knees, and thank the gods that Star Trek is actually fun again.

It honestly hasn't been this fun since TOS.

I'm calling it. So far, SNW is my second-favourite Trek series.

No. Let us never speak again of the vastly overrated shitty series that was created by a rapist.

Works for me. Are you saying this is one of those weird situations where the video is available in Canada but not the USA?

The song was "Keep Us Connected" where Uhura belts out a tune in Engineering.

I changed my VPN to Los Angeles and yes, the video no longer works. Suck it, America! :finger:

I was a musical theater kid in HS and I was rolling my eyes throughout this episode. It just doesn't fit the universe.

The Lower Decks crossover already ate up my tolerance this season for unserious episodes.

As a musical nerd, I had no issue with the concept so much as a lack of variety in musical style and none of them except Gooding's solo were all that great.

But hey, like WAB said, they're trying to make Trek fun again and one episode that doesn't fully work won't kill a largely episodic series like SNW. I mean, that's what people claim they wanted, no?

I mean mileage varies and it's not my favorite episode of Trek but "it doesn't fit" is an odd argument to make in a franchise that had the Easter Bunny as a foe and Picard & Co were forced to act out Robin Hood by Q.

At least they tried slapping some science over this one.

Although that doesn't really gibe with the regenerated Spock going through Pon Farr on the Genesis planet.

What if Spock underwent some kind of experimental treatment that he had hoped would cause him to stop experiencing Pon Farr, and it didn't work?

I like musicals (and OMWF is one of my favorite Buffy episodes), but by musical theater standards, this was ... just OK. There was a serious shortage of catchy, memorable songs. I can remember the basic content, but none of the melodies.

Also, when they do that lift with Christine during her big number, Jess Bush's hair behaves as if she's still standing upright.

There’s something like 800 hours of Star Trek. Even though I didn’t like this one, it was a unique attempt to try something different. I can at least appreciate it for that.
