Before Israel responded there were marches, protests and general get-togethers that were cheerfully supportive of Hamas's actions. Groups like BLM were re/tweeting icons and memes of paragliders and the like, making it pretty clear they were glorifying what happened.

The far left are perfectly happy with fascism, terrorism, racism, rape and murder, just so long as it is The Right People it is happening to.

The daytonkitchensification of the left has been pretty shocking, I mean, I expect that kind of thing from sections of the right, but they're also not going around pretending their shit doesn't stink either. If I see some piggy-eyed skinhead in a Skrewdriver tee, I'm pretty sure I know the rotten contents of that tin from the label. And once upon a time I felt that if I saw someone ambling around in a Greenpeace tee, we might have points of disagreement, but I could be confident there was a reasonably decent person there. Not any more.

So, no, Hamas won't be happy they've achieved something. Isreal was already the bad guy to many of those protesting, if those protests start doubling in volume, that'll be different.

Israel does need to start some humanitarian pauses, and if it helped evacuate the hospitals, and transfer patients like children and those on life support, it would go a long way to showing its neighbours this is about more than just levelling Gaza. I appreciate that they know Hamas would just attack those evacs, but if you want to be the good guy, sometimes that means taking the hit, and it'd also starkly highlight just who the bad guys are.

Of course there are rabid lefties who get all caught up in sniffing their own farts. I do not know what Palestine can do agbout the abuses of Isreal because no one is helping them. However, raping and pillaging like what just happened in their assault is not strategically helping in any way. I hate Isreal's actions in the past, but at this point they have to stop that shit. The lefties who want to say that the ideas of raping and genociding jews because of Isreal are just as bad as the right.

As for the idea that Isreal could take the sick from the hospitals in Gaza, how the fuck would that even work? The hospitals are directly connected to the underground tunnels used for force movements. Even if they wanted to do something like that it would open up whoever was doing it to attack. I do not see any reasonable way for Isreal to evac the people in the hospitals, and Hamas is obviously using them as a human shield.

It is a tough place for the sick and locals, but you let that infrastructure get set up. This is why you should not your military stage in hospital areas. If you do you make your hospitals a legitimate target. It is a strategy, but I do not find it a good one if you think it through. I know the palestinians are in a spot where the only people who seem to want to help them in Gaza are Hamas. It is just what is going to happen when you get involved with religious terrorists.

Hamas sees all its hostages as Israelis, official tells Russian state media

    https://www.reuters.com/world/middl...ages-hamas-official-tells-russian-2023-10-27/

MOSCOW, Oct 27 (Reuters) - Hamas officials visiting Moscow were quoted by Russian media on Friday as saying the militant group viewed all its hostages as Israelis, whatever additional passports they held, and could not release any of them until Israel agreed to a ceasefire.

Hamas Politburo member Abu Marzouk told state news agency RIA that Russia, the United States, France, Spain, Italy and many others had appealed for the release of their nationals from among more than 200 hostages that Hamas seized in a cross-border rampage into Israel on Oct. 7.

He said Hamas viewed Moscow's request "more positively and attentively than the others, given the character of our relations with Russia".

RIA quoted him as saying that Hamas did not view its captives as Russian, French or American. "All those captured, for us, are Israelis, although there is an appeal to their original citizenship in the hope this will save them," he said.

    what nationality are the hostages?

Whatever the fuck nationality they have to be to get released. They shouldn't be hostages in the first place.

You've organisations in Gaza who can work with the Israelis, it wouldn't be easy, but nothing is on a battlefield.

This isn't just about blowing things up for Israel, it's about ensuring they keep allies onside, the war not expanding in to a regional one and opening new fronts for the IDF, and keeping strands of diplomacy with the likes of Saudi and Qatar open.

A lot of the Arab nations are fed up of Hamas, but their actions are constrained by keeping their population happy, so they're not officially talking to Israel at the moment.

Israel going out of their way to evac Palestinian patients maybe not militarily smart, but politically and diplomatically it is the kind of thing that spikes a lot of potential problems.

And Hamas might not be inclined to attack them, recognising that, if they did, from a very coldly pragmatic perspective, it damages the anti-Israeli messaging.

A lot of the West can pay lip service to "hearts and minds", if Israel isn't going to be here again in a decade, it can't.

I dunno man, it's a nice idea, but I can see Hamas fucking things up a dozen different ways if Israel tries doing it themselves, since Hamas loves killing Israelis and simply doesn't give a shit about how their actions effect the Gaza Palestinians.

Seems like a great thing for all the countries demanding a ceasefire to be working on, though. I'm surprised they're not already doing so, since there's no way they're all talk. :bergman:

This sounds as sensible as that episode of The Big Bang Theory where Sheldon solved the ME problems.

I mean, they'll be out of rocket attack range if the Gazans get a taste for halal poutine, but that's about the only positive aspect of the plan.

At least it's not the moon I guess, so we're not going to get Iron Sky Hamas Edition.

I’m reminded of the limousine liberals Bill Maher would talk about on his old show. Hollywood types that support the cause celebre. The Free Palestine brigade has a lot of limousine liberals. People who start to stay they condemn Hamas and then immediately shift into whataboutism and victim blaming.

    No thanks

Trudeau is going to let in 1.3 million immigrants over the next 3 years, and we haven't done anything to increase housing, the number of schools, the number of doctors and nurses, etc to cover that kind of population growth. We're fucked for the time being

I'm pro-immigration. Canada's population would be in decline without immigration, and we wouldn't have the diverse and skilled labour force that the country needs.

But we have a very serious problem with public infrastructure in our major urban areas -- housing, transit, education and healthcare. These are all quantifiable facts that even politicians from pretty much every political party often highlight. The COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and subsequent economic fallout have only accelerated these problems.

The Liberal government seems to have just thrown the doors open without any consideration of how we actually plan to house folks and provide them with the basic necessities of a well-functioning society.

Senior Hamas official: 'Tunnels are for us, the UN can take care of Palestinian citizens'
Musa Abu Marzouk, a member of the Hamas political bureau, said in an interview that 'we built tunnels, these tunnels are meant to protect us from the airplanes.' According to him, '75% in Gaza are refugees, it is the responsibility of the UN to protect them' - and Israel's responsibility to provide them with services

Mousa Abu Marzouk, a senior member of the Hamas political bureau, said in an interview with the RT network in Arabic that the tunnels built in Gaza were meant to protect Hamas - and not the residents of the Strip. "It is the responsibility of the UN to protect them," he said.

"Everyone knows that 75% of the residents of the Gaza Strip are refugees - and that it is the responsibility of the United Nations to protect them. The responsibility of the occupation (Israel) to provide them with all services as long as they are under occupation - in accordance with the Geneva Convention," according to Marzouk.

Why can't Hamas build bomb shelters instead of terror tunnels against Israel? (ynetnews.com)

The IDF should be playing this interview around the clock all over Gaza. Maybe they can pay Mike Myers and Kanye to fly over there and say "Musa Abu Marzouk doesn't care about Palestinian people" on live television.

There is no great solution, but IMO you havbe to take the two fighting parties and separate them. They need a DMZ that is established and enforced on both sides. I am not really sure that the present geography and technology of either side could be done in the limitations of space. That DMZ has to be enforced by a foreign government. Any establishment of an attack that could penetrate the other side has to be policed on both sides.

Then you will have to do it for generations while both sides will have crazed violent terrorists try to attack the other side, and probably get through. Then the policing countries have to go in for the other side and remove the possibility of attack. You cannot leave policing Gaza and the west bank to the IDF. On the other hand you cannot leave it to the palestinians to rout out Hamas and stop them from acting on their hate agenda at the jews.

They need a referee able to dismantle the offense. In Isreal's case they need an offense. You cannot just make a defense force because they may need better to strike potential attackers in their own region on other fronts. That is unless the world wants to defend Isreal against any Muslim state that wants to attack them. I am pretty sure Isreal would never go for any of that being they are set up as a jewish state that needs the ability to protect jews from foreign interventions. I really would not blame Isreali jews for not trusting the world to have their best interests in mind and protect them. I have no faith in that idea myself.

I recognize if you pull the palestinians out of palestine and give them refugee status anywhere else there will be a large portion of them that are resentful and fight against the country that houses them. You have to somehow separate those who want to die for palestine from those who want to live their lives somewhere else. The only way I see that working is to have a safe zone where the palestinians can run, let Isreal take Palestine, and then set the palestinians up elsewhere where they are protected form any anti-palestinian hatred. You cannot even put them in another islamic state because they arew not safe. If you put them in a non-muslim country many will balk because you do not enforce Islamic law on the people. So the choice to the fleeing palestinians has to be no more religious rule over the people because the other factions of your religion do not like your rule, and the other countries who are not muslim do not want Islamic rule.

My realistic side say let mortal combat begin and both sides fight this out until there is a winner and anyone who wants safety gives up any hope of muslim palestinian rule and can enjoy the rest of their life. If you want to die for palestinian or jewish rule, then you have your battleground. No nukes and fight! Any other countries step in to do anything else but take in refugees and you will have problems.

You know, that strategy is exploitable. If there really are 75 percent of the population which are refugees, and the tunnels are the safe areas, then you have to terrorize the refugees to take the tunnels. See how long the refugees keep shielding hamas when Hamas is shooting them running into the tunnels for safety from the bombs.

One of the problems is the palestinians see Hamas as their ally. If they are your ally then they will not shoot you when you run for the tunnels.

That strategy does have a huge potential for backfiring and giving Hamas a whole bunch of new recruits. Then at least you have no more refugees to worry about.

Ceasefire now! Think of the civilians! Also:

A spokesman for the Hamas government in Gaza has promised that the terror organization will repeat the October 7 massacre until Israel ceases to exist.

In a video published on X, formerly Twitter, Hamas' Ghazi Hamad says, "We will repeat the October 7 attack time and again until Israel is annihilated."

He also claimed, "We are victims - everything we do is justified."

That sound you hear is Ricky violently creaming his jorts at the last sentence. :yeehaw:

    https://www.israelhayom.com/2023/11...rzog-gets-trimmed-israel-airs-censored-parts/

An interview with President Isaac Herzog was trimmed significantly by the BBC, with the network ultimately choosing to air only 6 out of the total 28 minutes.

The reason for this decision is unclear, although it could be because of the harsh criticism leveled by Israel against the British outlet for refusing to label Hamas as a terrorist organization, choosing to call its perpetrators "militants."

The "censored" parts included a reference to this criticism, saying "I don't want to discuss the objectivity of the BBC" as well as an emotional response by Herzog to the calls for restraint in the wake of the Hamas terrorist massacre that saw some 1400 Israeli residents murdered on Oct. 7 and several hundred kidnapped. "This is eight times bigger than 9/11 – what else do you want us to do?"

Naor Ihia, his spokesperson, said on Twitter: "Something about the way the BBC conducted the interview made me think I should have my own recording of what the president says before someone tries to censor or distort it... So here are the things the BBC didn't want the world to hear."
