This. If you're going to have the death penalty, there are lots of ways to kill people quickly and basically painlessly. Why the search for these convoluted pseudo-medical procedures? There's definitely some collective psychological rationalisation going on. Anything involving actual violence against the victim seems to be unacceptable for some reason.
