For real though, this treating Rs like they are the Special Kid on a YMCA basketball team is bullshit and bad for the country.

The Democrats getting 215 or 216 votes on the failed Mayorkas impeachment showed incredible discipline. If the Republicans had done that you’d be reading NYT stories for weeks about their strong coalition.

Gonna throw this out there but maybe electing a dude who thinks the earth is 4,000 years old to be the guy whose job it is to be able to count to 216 was a bad idea.

It actually sounds the Rs knew he had surgery and was recovering and assumed he would miss the vote, cementing the victory. Greasy shit!

And Scalise missed the vote due to his cancer treatment and, had he been there, it would've passed.

I read somewhere that by virtue of one of the Rs voting No, they can bring it back for another vote later on. You'd expect that they'd ensure that Scalise is there for that vote, but this is the 21st century GOP we're talking about here. :jayzus:

If I was advising the Democrats I would say whenever the R’s have the votes to impeach Mayorkas start putting out press releases calling this double jeopardy and saying the first vote was the only one that mattered. If you repeat it enough the media will parrot your talking points.

Cruz had a press conference demanding the immediate resignation of McConnell due to 'failed leadership.'

I wonder if I should put parmesan sprinkle on my popcorn, or just go with traditional butter and salt.

Apparently this isn’t the first time something like this has gone down:

At a key cloture vote in the Senate fight for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Democrats wheeled in Sen. Clair Engle, who was dying from a brain tumor.

He’d lost the ability to speak, so when the Clerk called his name, he simply pointed to his eye.

And the clerk said: “Senator Engle, aye.”

    https://bsky.app/profile/kevinmkruse.bsky.social/post/3kks2eyhsow2s

Looking it up it was apparently his last vote, he died 28 days later.

Hell of a note to go out on. :salute:

For real though. Imagine you’re one of his kids.

The last conscience thing your father did was have his staff wheel him into the Senate chambers so that he, a mute at this point, could point at his eye and thus cast an ‘aye’ vote allowing the Dems to overcome a Republican filibuster of the Civil Rights Act….

    For real… damn… :salute:

Allow me to pre-empt Federal Farmer by pointing out that it was not a Republican filibuster.

At the same time, allow me to be far more honest than Federal Farmer ever would be by pointing out that it was a Southern conservative filibuster, because if there's one group that can always be relied upon to be on the wrong side of history, Southern conservatives are it.

I wonder why we all need to pre-empt federal fucktard? It must be that we all hate him and decided he was racist and not that he always does this fucking shit.

Mayorkas was impeached (by one vote) meaning they just it in before Suozzi could be sworn in.

Murray (pres pro tem) will lead the hearings which will likely not be much of a hearing so much as a vote to dismiss.

They really had to make a whole lot of effort to thread that needle so they could get nothing accomplished.

    Way to congress.
