The Democrats are seriously starting to over-reach here. And I've already heard and read news reports of union members going into these meetings. Seems the Democrats are hell bent on filling up the meetings only with those who support them instead of just letting voters in general show up.
You start sending in the union thugs to these meetings and I guarantee there'll be blood in the town halls before it's all over.
No surprise with the reaction. I AM surprised how fast it is happening though. Obama hasn't even been in office a year.
There were six people arrested the other day at a rally. Some other rallys are reporting scuffles. I for one can't wait the union to carry out the messiahs instruction that they should hit back twice as hard on this issue.
A populace that's pissed at Republicans who aren't living up to their conservative promises isn't exactly going to roll right over for socialist Democrats. The mistake here is to interpret the strength of the Blue Dog Coalition as support for liberalism. That's not what the Blue Dogs got elected for -- they get elected by disaffected conservatives. Stop fucking with our freedom.
Then it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that there's gonna be blood. The Dems are are under the control of the Unions and they're not gonna be satisfied, apparently, with even the government guaranteeing their jobs. They're going to have to guarantee their healthcare (for free) as well.
Marso, when you go to concerts are you always one of the first ones to sort of start clapping? You know, you bring your shoulders up and move your hands apart, but you're looking around to make sure you're not gonna be the only clapper? I appreciate your sentiment, but you're always, "Hell yeah! Let's roll!" And then I don't see you rolling.
We don't have much of a problem with labor unions in Boise, Idaho. And Apostle, the day I decide to 'roll' I won't be posting about it here, believe me.
I don't have much regard for Peggy Noonan, and most of the time I don't think she sees the US accurately. I usually skip her editorial in the weekend WSJ. I agree with pretty much all criticisms of Barry & Friends, but not with Peggy's view of what's going on, Ms. Noonan sees America through her usual, Peggy-colored glasses, imo, as distorted a set of glasses as the fun-house mirrors Congress uses when they see a reflection of our country. For example, I agree that the town-hall meetings are genuine, and stem from grass roots movements, not right-wing community organizers - but "terrifying" is hardly the word I'd use to characterize it. Noonan's as guilty as the fear-mongering left to use such an adjective. "Outraged," maybe, "pissed off or angry," and maybe there is even some disillusionment, for the few who held any expectations. I'd love to see the unions escalate matters, and then get slapped down hard (or do some stomping, and then get some stomping in return). In today's world the union leaders are the same as the scum in Congress, aggrandizing themselves at the expense and sacrifices made by their constituents.
I don't know. I would definitely describe what I feel as being in the fear family. This is not too much socialism for a moderately leftist country that's elected a socialist hardliner. But it is too much socialism for a center-right country that might elect someone who ran as a moderate -- and too much socialism is rightfully scary. People who go to these meetings because they're angry at where we're heading are not upset because they simply don't like the destination. They're angry because they very much are afraid of where the crew appears to be steering the ship. I think "terrifying" is accurate indeed. And it's correct to be angry at someone who's taking you someplace you're afraid of against your will.
tuttle: ^ I just don't see the unions getting slapped down by the Dems when they inevitably do over-reach. The Dems owe them a lot and they're not going to back down from their promises without further punishing conservatives for their "heartlessness".
I don't see the unions getting slapped down by the dems, either. If push comes to shove I see them getting slapped down by angry men with various sorts of weaponry and a mob mentality.
Perhaps. I'll make my point another way. Do you think this quote from above editorial accurately describes the country you live in?: Advice that will never be taken. Results that will never be forthcoming, even if the advice is taken. Americans who react positively to government that admits it didn't know what it was talking about? Obama supporters who don't receive their gubmint check will be happy? Obama critics who are vindicated in their belief that a Guy with no experience screwed things up but will perk up suddenly at idea that He may suddenly become responsible? What world is Ms. Noonan looking at? Who is this advice really directed to? It sounds to me like Noonan just wants to keep herself syndicated in publication, not that she is really saying anything constructive, or informative, or perceptive. Imo, anyway.
The Blue-Dog coalition is more fiscally responsible than most realize. And when spending goes out of control, Americans turn to them.
Anyone who wants to be re-elected will do his 'unpopular' work right off the bat, then work his/her way back into the good graces of the voters.
Every politician should tremble in fear of the electorate. They pay attention that way. That goes for Obama all the way down to your local dog catcher.
When the people fear the government, that is tyranny. When the government fears the people, that is liberty! -Jefferson
For once I agree with you. But is a government takeover of health care the most unpopular thing The Obama has up his sleeves? Here's a cool site that tracks candidate Obama's promises against President Obama's reality. http://obamapromisewatch.net/index.html I'm sure if I sat down and looked through it, I could find a few more issues that will get the public on it's toes again. The SS Obama is taking on water fast!
