I knew very little of the demographics of Lake County IL when I took the responsibility of house hunting while my ex was at work. I found a place, big yard, quiet street (not a through street) and an older neighborhood - older in the sense that most yards had large trees that had been planted decades ago. Anyway, the ex saw the house, we agreed it’s perfect and put in an offer. Later, when telling family and friends about the house and where it was, we were surprised at their surprise - more so when it was communicated that I was the one to find the house. Winthrop Harbor IL is also “known” for being a KKK holdout. Even the fire trucks are painted white. Seriously, it’s insane. However, the previous (previous to 2006) decade or two, the town had, by necessity changed. The previous owners of our house were an interracial couple, an interracial couple lived just up the street, and their neighbors were a lesbian couple. There is nothing about the town, in the near 2 decades later, that reflects its racist past. Now that it’s mentioned here, I do recall hearing about Howell when I was a child. But, I’m willing to give the residents of Howell the benefit of a doubt. I also, do not doubt trump’s campaign team specifically scheduled this speech in Howell as opposed to another nearby town.
Tell me about it. I have been addicted to BTD since 3. I still enjoy playing Monkey city from time to time from level 1-40.
@Jenee liking a house in racist land and trying to explain away her finding the area perfect is a little spot on.
I wouldn’t give them too much benefit… https://www.freep.com/story/news/po...ivingston-county-sheriffs-office/74842092007/
I’m missing something. Your link isn’t giving any more information than the one shootER posted. I do not doubt the city council of Howell welcomed trump, nor do I deny that many people in Michigan are racist. I’m just saying, I doubt the majority of the population adhere to the ideals of the KKK.
With your observational skills you could have been standing at ground zero at noon on 9/11 2001 and wondering if you missed something. @Jenee standing in front of the big oak tree after a lynching with the black man still hanging from the rope behind her wondering why everyone thinks there is racism around because they let the black guy come to the picnic.
Just before the 6-minute mark on this podcast episode, they play a short clip of Trump from the 2016 GOP debate, and it is stark at how different he sounded then, compared to anything I've heard of him in the past couple of years. Trump (rightly) tears into the Republicans for invading Iraq, and is able to make coherent points while doing so.
The police have no trouble breaking up peaceful demonstrations for things like BLM, yet, somehow, can't do the same when literal goddamned Nazis show up to march. And based on this article, it doesn't sound like there was much of a counter-protest.
How obvious is it that there would be no reason for white nationalists to be racist around @Jenee or @Uncle Albert . They are not going to experience racism because they aren't black. I can walk right into the fucking middle of a Klan or Nazi rally and get along fine with everyone around. I could share beers with them and we could talk about all sorts of things. They would probably even offer to help me if I was in need. I was in racist towns in Alabama. The black people and the white people got along just fine. They all smiled at each other and said please and thank you. On the surface everything looked great. That is what is so insidious about racism. You don't see it on the surface, and you don't know it is there if you are white and complicit. You assume things are fine. Black people do not come up to you pointing out racism all the fucking time. You assume that there is no racism because they never call you on it, but they can't call you on it without ruining their social standing and being labelled as one of them. So they are polite and excuse your crap because they want to go on pleasantly and not have problem. That is the way of the abused and broken. They blame themselves for their actions which trigger the racist aggressors. On top of that, if you are actually not a racist person and you treat black people with respect they do not want to burden you with their problems because they appreciate your inclusion of them within your valuable people. They know you will be attacked if you stick up for them and you will be the bad guy. Look at the way UA and FF treat people who call out their racism. They try to make it an insult that we are getting offended at their toxic attitude. Look at how @Jenee feels there is no racism around her because everyone knows to be all polite in her face and to keep that shit outside her view. It isn't hard to fool her because she isn't looking and assumes people are not racist. One thing I learned being a stealth victim of prejudice. People make up all sorts of excuses for you to not be in that hated group if you are around them and they have to socialize with you. Even us liberals try to assume some of the CHUDs are really not that CHUDDY if we do not have direct evidence of them watching an Andrew Tate video. I wore nail polish as a man, and people started thinking I was in a band. My gay friend just happened to have a really good roommate who was his best friend so they had all these pictures together. As long as I wasn't wearing a dress, or my friend wasn't kissing his lover everyone juts assumed we weren't what they hated unless they accepted what we were. This is why outing is such an event for a lot of people because There is that group of people who just assumed things were hetero normative. You can't do that with black. You have to dig to find the racism and prejudice, and people avoid seeing those ugly things in others because we are used to overlooking human nasty.
That depends. For donald Trump, he looks fine. If he was in the movie Pink Flamingos, sure he looks fine. If this was a picture of a presidential candidate I would say not at all. However, I am told that some people think that is a good look for POTUS.
The whackadoodle (no, seriously, this dude is bonkers) who the Republicans nominated for governor in North Carolina is trailing in a new poll by 14 points. By contrast, Roy Cooper won re-election by a much thinner margin of 4.5 points. Not that the top of the Republican ticket is much saner, but it'd be awesome of Mark Robinson dragged it down. (Trump's margin in North Carolina in 2020 was 1.5 points.)
