Unfortunately no. Looking at cross tabs and focus groups this is good for Trump. He is the most popular (by a large margin) second option of DeSantis voters.

DeSantis tried to take the Trumpism w/out Trump lane. Love his ‘policies’ (what?) and how he ‘fought’ but felt he maybe was too old, all over the place, doesn’t know how to work all the levers of power or is irrationally hated by too many moderates/indys/Dems to get much done? Then DeSantis is your guy!

I know I am going 4D chess here but this is bad for the United States IMO.

I wanted Haley to win NH so that Trump would spend the next month until SC saying absolutely deranged and sexist and racist shit about her which would turn off middle aged suburban moderates (especially women) in the general.

Now he is likely to blow her out in NH and she drops out and then Trump can go back to hiding from folks until the convention. The less folks see Trump the better (for him).

How many Trump supporters wouldn’t vote for DeSantis though? I think he had a better chance of beating Biden than Trump does.

I know that you and Trump like to play word games changing the meaning of things, but by the traditional definition it was absolutely an insurrection.

I don't think you have to go to that many dimensions to see it could be bad.

Not when try cries and throws a tantrum about how the nomination was stolen. Hard core MAGA will refuse to vote for anyone else, probably try to write in or something for Trump. Mo Republican can win without them.

Conversely, the question becomes whether those who tell pollsters that they can't vote for him if convicted are serious. if he loses even 10-20% of that flank he can't win.

The best thing for all of us is if he's convicted AFTER the GOP convention but before the election (which given his delay tactics I don't think any of the criminal cases will end before August)

No matter who wins this year in four years we will have an open race because both of them will be either dead or in severe memory care. So Ron can run again.

I am pretty sure this is why he dropped out. No reason to get hammered in the real primary voting, so get out now and run in four years. Either Trump will win and he won't be able to run again, or Trump will lose and be convicted and too old and he runs in four years.

The repug voters don't care how bad his past is. It was just a waste of money to run now, but his ego (aka his wife), did not get that message.

DeSantis chomped at the bit too early. He should have waited until 2028. I don’t think he’s completely doomed, but he’s going to have a lot of work to do to be the front runner for 2028. A lot can also happen between now and then. Hell, a lot can happen between now and November.

The only way he stands a chance of winning in 2028 is if Biden gets re-elected.
