And a Happy Birthday to Duncan MacLeod, the Highlander!

I know that we have more than a few Highlander fans on our board here, and today seemed an opportune time to start a new thread on our favorite Scots.

My early resolution for New Year's this year is to re-visit the Movies and Series, (except for the animated series & The Source :vomit:) over the course of the coming year. Might even turn it into an episode by episode review thread by the time its all said and done...

Oddly enough my wife has been watching the series on DVD for a few months. She's in the 3rd season now. Much as we loved the show, she says the first couple of seasons weren't very good.

I've been DVRing the TV series off of SyFy for a couple of months, but it's rare that I can actually bring myself to watch one. No idea why I never realized it before, but most of those episodes are fucking awful. Clunky stories, painful dialogue, just about every 80s/early 90s action TV show cliche' you can think of, and quite a few actors who have you hoping their character dies after a few scenes. In particular that douchebaggy kid who played Richie. :sniper:

Yeah, season one is generally bad, but it gets marginally better when the show moves to Paris. Season two is mainly more of the same until Tessa is killed off and the watcher story arc kicks in. By the end of season two, the show has finally found it's footing, and stays pretty good up 'til the end of season five.

A few sword links, just for fun...

    Del Tin armoury in Italy.

The Cheap stuff from Replica Dungeon.

Museum Replicas, a division of Atlanta Cutlery.

Raven Armoury, out of the UK. Pricey, but nice looking stuff.

Jose De Braga makes a nice Connor-type katana, if you're looking for something with a carbon steel blade as opposed to a stainless steel wall-hanger.

Yeah, I think we agree seasons 3 & 4 were the best. And I think we can all agree Richie is a douche.

Something I've noticed when I happen to be in the room when Mary's watching one, is that the background music was pretty awful. I won't be lookin' for the soundtrack (except for the Queen soundtrack, which we have).

Season 5 didn't thrill me after Duncan decided he didn't want to kill anybody any more and started fighting with sticks instead of swords. Kinda killed half the fun of the show. Then fo course S6 was a total waste except for Claudia Christian's ep, and the final three with the regular cast.

Eh, season five isn't all bad, sure the Ahriman story sucked, but that didn't really start 'til the last episode or two of the season. Season six is where Duncan started off with the escrima, that didn't last long, especially since he wasn't really even in but around half of the episodes of the already shortened season, mostly due to a shoulder injury of some sort & the producers search / try-outs for a female lead for the spin-off (which everyone knew was going to be Amanda, since Methos was evidently vetoed due possible higher costs 'cause his much longer lifespan would mean a larger costume and set budget).

And yeah, Ritchie was pretty much a waste, they didn't handle the character right until they had him "die" in his racing accident. And I wasn't crazy about him post-Dark Quickening either. But having Duncan be the one to whack him was too much.

Moving on to a brief rant about The Raven for a moment - given the title of the series and the raven-haired beauty they hired for the lead, why the hell did she belach her hair platinum blonde!?!?!? :wtf:
