But....but....those are professional critics and their opinions can't be trusted!!!!

Oh, sure, they're probably all bought off, but as a free-market libertarian, you should dig that, it shows how JJ really really wants it.

Gee, I wonder how many critics like the SW Prequels...

Not when it first came out. Shit, everyone was falling all over themselves about how awesome it was to have Star Wars in the theater again. Ebert, one of the best known professional critics, loved the hell out of it.

Yeah but he hated Episode 2 .

It's also worth noting that Ebert gave the last Star Trek film only 2 and a half stars

All I remember from walking out of the prequels was "man that was pretty weak, but how about those awesome lightsaber fights?!"

I also remember it being not that well received when Hayden Christensen made his debut in Episode II. People piled on that kid.

Hayden really was a bad actor but then again the writing for those prequals was equally bad. Episode 3 is the only one that I can stand to rewatch.

He won't be able to rate the new film, unless he has an iPad in hell.

I can not watch any of the prequels at all...period. They are that horrific.


Ed Wood and Dr. Uwe Boll are/were better film makers than George Lucas.

But he loved Episode 1.

He's paid with his life, I think we can let it be bygones now.

Shit, the prequels--along with "ST: Generations" and "ST: Insurrection" are so bad that I can't even explain the plot to someone without gagging in disgust.

Having read the detailed plot synopsis, my worries are acutely confirmed by this review -from a critic who actually seems familiar with Star Trek.

Why did so many fans seem to be howling for "Khan!" after just the first movie anyway?

Nevar forget.

Plus, I'm not exactly the one who brought professional critics into this, am I?

If accurate, they kind of opened that up with Scotty's magic beaming equation that landed him in Enterprise's water park.

I'm so pissed that the DVD didn't have the deleted scene where Scotty runs into Napoleon, and then the song "the boys and the girls are doing it", kicks in.

I can only go by the daily clips that have been coming out, and fitting those into the plot spoilers which are afoot...but from what I've seen, I get the impression that those (reviewers)who liked the previous film specifically in that it was a fun shiny whiz-bang summer action film are less impressed with this one because the story actually has some depth. and vice versa.

I thought the last one was fun, but pretty much fluff. nt a great movie by any stretch, but enjoyable and re-watchable.

the vibe I'm getting from this one is that it will be much MUCH better in terms of being the kind of movie i really like. Possibly, they will fumble it but from the bits I've already seen, the pieces are there to make a great movie.

Or the deleted scene where they flash back to Scotty's sidekick's home planet, and all the tiny lizard people are assembled at the HQ of the Lollipop Guild.

Translation: Normal people are going to love this film; super-geek fanboys are going to hate it.

I'm in.
