I figured it is about time to start a thread looking at all the ways in which the First Amendment is in jeopardy.

Certain sectors should be glad that mega-corporations (that only exist due to Government fiat) are not being treated as individuals with rights.

I'm still torn on the matter. Part of me sees Facebook / Twitter etc. as something akin to communications utilities and part of me still remembers a long time ago when I was a Libertarian.

On the one hand, I think companies and individuals have the right to do business with whom they please, and on the other hand I think entities that basically owe their formal existence to the State itself are fit subjects of this kind of regulation.

Your statement that no rights can exist without the 2nd amendment is dogma.

What happens when all of our rights are taken away and we have martial law, you're just going to use flower power to stop the government?

Your little pea shooters and micropenis enhancers aren't going to do shit against an American government and military truly determined to take all of your rights away, and you know that.

Technology has made flower power and an AR-15 about as equally useful in stopping a rogue government.

If it ever comes to that, it will be the chemists and hackers and pr specialists that save the day. You aren't going to overthrow the government with firearms. It didn't work when a third of the country seceded and the best guys with the guns fought to keep their slaves, it won't work know in an era of lasers, railguns, and drones.

But go ahead, every good revolution needs martyrs. Just don't expect there to be anything for your next of kin to bury.

The theory behind the 2nd amentment was that you couldn't trust the standing military. We now have the most powerful standing military in the world, are in no danger of invasion, and we have more danger of losing people's lives to wannabe soldier boys playing insurrection than we do a competent, professional military that has weathered every test thrown at it. Including the one just 4 months ago.

Part of me says the government can fuck off when it comes to preventing social media sites from deplatforming a dangerous personality simply because that dangerous personality is a member of the government. Another part of me is okay with this because all it means is I'm going to harass the fuck out of them until they want to leave.

And last I heard the only wannabe authoritarians in the US were just voted out of office.

We are far more likely to be at risk of our liberty to conservative's lies enflaming 'patriots' than we are to a US military sworn to the Constitution.

Just a year ago, according to the left and the media, we had the worst dictator the world has seen since Hitler. You're telling me all of the sudden we can trust the government?

Another word: Afghanistan. To pretend the US military can't be defeated is out right bullshit.

The US military refused to take up arms to help said would be dictator overthrow the Constitution, which is why it's so important we have intelligent, educated men swearing allegiance to the principles of our government rather than to an office or a man.

And if there ever comes a day we can't, then as I said, small arms aren't going to be the deciding factor.

The last time they were the leading cause of death on the battlefield in a war the US was involved in was the Civil War.

And the 'every last man is trained with a gun yee-haw' crowd lost that one too.

The disparity would be far larger now. The only way to beat the US military is logistics, because if they can see it they can kill it right now. You have to deprive them of weapons. Hence chemists, physicists, and hackers. The AQ insurgency had almost no success fighting straight up against the US military - that's why they resorted to massive IED deployment, even though that routinely blew up their own fighters.

Dude, we left. We going to leave Delaware or Tennessee? You have to win a war against the US politically, especially if it's on our own soil. You think the propaganda now is bad?

Vietnam had China sitting just off shore ready to step in when necessary. In the US, we don't just have the military, we have the police, who have a bigger budget than most countries set aside for their own militaries. So before you'd have to deal with the military, you'd have to deal with the cops, who have been armed like the military, and who are worse than the military in terms of both lack of control and ability to handle crisis situations, and don't think they wouldn't bomb people, either. Back in 1986, the Philadelphia police bombed an entire city block to root out what they believed to be a radical organization, and killed a dozen innocent people in the process.

I'm perfectly fine with owning a gun to defend yourself if you live in an area where it can be such a help, but here's the issue: unlike US troops in Vietnam, or even British soldiers in US colonies, the police and military know their neighborhoods, and technology makes it much easier for them to pin you down and firebomb the shit out of you. So yeah, Second Amendment, but no, not an effective deterrent for a corrupt government.

I mean, hell, some of the people who say "don't tread on me" are the ones who also say "blue lives matter," so I mean, it's not like they actually fucking know their history.

Because we were effectively beaten.
