Alberta, Canada has had a very conservative provincial government for 80 years, the last 44 under the rule of the Progressive Conservative party. Then this just happened:

So the New Democrats got 40 percent of the vote and picked up 49 seats, the Liberals lost 4 seats, getting only 4 percent of the vote. The Wildrose party had 34 percent of the votes before, holding 5 seats, but this time they dropped to only 24 percent of the votes, so they get 21 seats, a gain of 16, and 11 seats more than the Progressive-Conservatives who got 28 percent of the votes, four percent more than Wildrose.

I was reading the thread about this over at apolyton which has a number of Canadian posters including a few Albertans. Apparently, the ruling conservatives fucked up big time being extremely arrogant, entitled, and corrupt. There was a lot of strategic voting and a massive push by young people using social media to get the NDP elected which is a far left party.

It will be interesting to see how they manage.

Basically PC (the traditional conservative party) had gone tea party level crazy putting a flat income tax in place, gutting spending on infastructure and education, cutting health care, relaying mostly on oil royalties, but still resulting in a huge budget deficit.

NDP promised to end the structural budget problems by restoring the graduated income tax so that the budget would be balanced no matter if oil prices went up or down. PC claimed no one could ever have known oil prices would be volital but that was a stupid claim because everyone knows commodity prices have huge volatility. Basically, it sounds like NDP wants treat oil royalties as gravy but not a vital part of the budgeting process and to do that non-oil taxes will have to go up.

Have you ever been there? It's a matter of perspective. Coming from Fairbanks (as I did) the time I spent there seemed plenty warm.

Only up as far as hailfax Nova scotia and parts of quebeck so it's not like I didn't go places there. And yes it is fucking cold. Their cars have block warmers. They have cold where ytour spit frerezes before it hits the ground. First you try to tell me georgia is not racist and now you are trying to tell me canadia isn't cold. That may impress your little knob polisher @Kuranes who doesn't have two good neurons to rub together for a spark, but some of os other people might have been around a few places, and actually talked to all of the different types of people around which you clearly do not do. So you boys can go jerk eachother off, but do remember the fantasy ends when you start playing with other people who know you are full of shit.

As I said, most of Canada is not cold compared to Fairbanks Alaska. I was in Fairbanks for 18 months, so I pretty much got a good hit of their climate. Anchorage however was much warmer. I went to Cold Lake Alberta for training exercise and to us Fairbanks boys it was like a tropical vacation. Anyway, yes I had to plug my car in with the block heaters and interior heaters to keep your seats from cracking when you sat on them. I have a picture of "high noon" on the shortest day of the year in Fairbanks (December 21) with the sun barely coming up over the horizon, then dipping right back down. I frolicked with the moose, caribou, bears, etc. every chance I got. I caught salmon and grayling and pike. So your experiences in the land of the midnight sun are what exactly?

Oh I see, we are all supposed to look at the world from your perspective. I was totally coming at it from the angle of the 99.99 percent of people who have not lived in alaska.

From now on it would be a lot easier if you would assume I am coming from a perspective that is not yours. I normally do not present from your perspective, and why would I want to, so telling me that I am wrong from your perspective is not really useful information as I am probably quitre aware that your default setting is that I am wrong. So now that you understand that could you quit your absurd bitching and get back to the handjob you were giving @Kuranes because I think he is getting a little bit jelly as the kids put it.

You are the one who brought up Canada being cold. I'm just telling you how it's a matter of perspective from somebody who has lived in a wide variety of climates around the world.

They're basically a milder version of the Tea Party.

I'm not entirely opposed to them, since they're actually in favour of campaign finance reform.

It's basically shorthand for "We're conservatives, but not demented fundie conservatives."

Which is why the federal PC party was decimated when the fundies broke off and created the "Reform Party," which later rebranded itself as the "Canadian Alliance" for the express purpose of merging with/completely absorbing the original PC party to become the Conservative Party. It's those assholes that run Canada at the federal level now.

Fuck, I hate the federal Conservatives. It's not so much that they're conservative, it's just that they're corrupt and extremely petty.

Speaking of Canadian politics, do you guys still call your conservatives "Tories" and your liberals "grits"?

I was a fan of the Anne of Green Gables series growing up, and these terms popped up a bit, and I've been curious about that but never asked.

I see both terms used in opinion pieces, but I only really hear "Tories" used by real people. Not often, though. Stephen Harper, the prime minister, is making a big effort to label the Conservatives as "the Harper government," even in official government communications.

Actually, if you took the time to read my knee jerk illiterate ankle biter you would see I did not ask for information at all. I made a statement that it was cold up in canadia, and oldfella, being the disagreeable curmudgeon he is, disagreed with that because he personally does not think it is cold up there because he has been in alaska. So I informed him that his point of view was not what most people would have considering most people do not have large amounts of experience with the deep arctic north while also recognizing his travels there would make him more used to severe type whether and put him out of the norm making his statement mostly irrelevant to the larger group.

You can do the victory dance because you like your imaginary world where you are not a second rate intellect and think you can compete, but in this case you did not even get the context correct you fucking tard. Reading is fundamental, or do they not teach that to the cannon fodder in the military?

Yes, I was not asking for his perspective, therefor using his perspective to nullify my statement was a pathetic argument tactic normally reserved for idiots and teenagers. When I say it is cold up in canadia I am referring to a global norm, not dipshits. So arguing that it is not cold in canada because he is from fairbanks shifts the argument from what it was to something he can actually argue. To allow oldfella to do that is to allow him to put words in my mouth that I have to argue for that I would have never said to begin with.

Yes, it is a petty argument trick, and no I am not going to deal with the bullshit argument despite you and your crowd wishing I would so you could score a point on me through some pretty pathetic form.

Canada is cold compared to most places on earth. You picked an obscure point of view to say canadia is not cold. You also have an obscure point of view on racism in georgia. The world does not work from your point of view, and despite your travels your point of view seems to be really fucking off. So no I do not regard your point of view as a valid argument and you will need to do a little more to convince me that obvious norms like canadia is cold and goergia has a good bit of racism left in it are wrong.

Please do not think I am your average dumbass on the internet who is going to start arguing a point you placed them in that they never said to begin with. Yes I know the tactic, and no I do not fall for it so you might want to not do that with me or perhaps in some place where I might care to respond in the future.

Depends on where you go in Canada. I've been to British Columbia a few times, and even for a person that prefers the endless Sumner of SoCal, I didn't find it unbearably cold.

This is where people start loosing their common sense. It is cold in canada. It is like water being wet, or the sky being up. Now you are just arguing an absurd perspective. It was cold here the other day in florida, but that does not mean that florida is cold. Look at what you are trying to argue about.

I am going to state the argument in simple terms so a jarhead can understand it.

I said it was cold in canadia. Then @oldfella1962 said that he did not think it was cold because he lived in fairbanks alaska. Now both statements are true, and his does not nullify mine because relative to the rest of the internet world it is cold in canada. That does not mean sometimes canada can't have warm days or summer. It means it is a colder climate. Oldfuckers 2 cents was an effort to be deliberately argumentative because I said something. I was in the process of explaining that to him when you came over and with no explanation or reasoning declared him right even though you were lazy and did not read the conversation.

Now I have had enough of elementary language lessons for the day. I do hope you get some practice with your obviously low level of reading comprehension. This is shit they teach in middle school, and I have had to explain it to you at a middle school level. So when I say you have a second rate intellect (probably third or fourth) you have so enthusiastically proven me right with your example. So do your neg rep and I do declare you good and Spnakd!

Oh, and one more thing. To the both of you idiots. You do not have to like or respect my intellect to do this, so you might actually listen to it. Neither one of you are a good soap box to stand on. You are dumb as shit so you probably should not back the other's argument because there is a good possibility they have not thought it through and are wrong. You do not have to like me to not prop up shitty arguments.
