I'm so glad this is back - I need some crazy superhero fun in my life right now. Only downside is that my Mum is called Dot, so awkward given show!Dot hotness. Just gonna focus on the actress' name, Valorie Curry. Mmm.... Curry.
So, who watched? I'm only up to ep 11 but loving it so far, though the trailer made it seem like there'd be more Tick action by now - his aerial insertion and the fight with the robot was about all of it, so looking forward to Tick vs Terrorcraft. Terror himself has suffered a bit of villain decay since his tormenting of young Arthur - he's whacky evil now, more ham than machine. They even gave him a pig to lampshade it. Good thing Lint is still watchable, and not just for her obvious charms. Tinfoil Kevin should be out fighting crime in his own supersuit - he'd be Tony Stark if he didn't see money as an addiction. He built a tiny man and a killer robot into a cyborg. In a giant robot head! With a bunch of scraps! (and a killer robot that was missing a head) I was also expecting Superian to be a self-absorbed dick/glory hound but, while he admitted he liked the adulation he gets and gave up too easily on confirming the Terror was dead because of it, his "I just wanna be a good person" when Arthur asked why he does the superhero thing was a nice touch. Burt Kwouk was a god among men, so it is no surprise that Francois Chau has been possessed by his spirit and always makes me think he's still alive and being awesome.
I thought the whole deal was pure awesome from start to finish. Absolutely loved it, much more than the last live action attempt at the character. Only the animated series tops this.
Finally had time to finish it tonight, still feel the same way about it, in that it's missing a certain something, but still enjoyed the series. I noticed that Patrick Warburton was credited as a producer on the last episode. I hope that this means they'll be doing something with him in the next season (assuming they're doing one). Also noticed that Ms. Lint looks like a friend of mine. And down, boys, she's happily married. I have to say, however, that the casting for Overkill was absolutely perfect. The guy looks like an action figure.
Non-spoilery review of the first episode. Clearly a lot of set-up and foreshadowing for the coming season. There's not a lot of overt humor in it, but there are some good lines. Mainly, I was watching and saying, "Okay, this looks good, this looks good" and then, "Wait? It's over?" It didn't drag, but like last time, I feel like I've somehow finished a bag of cookies and didn't notice until I reached in to grab the last one, only to discover that it's empty.
Non-spoilery review of the second episode: This is more like it! Definitely hits that "Tick spot" that the first one didn't quite get to.
First episode was decent. I see they fixed Arthur's helmet. The eyepieces actually cover his eyes correctly now. The helmet looks much better on him now. I liked Tick's old uniform from season one. I hope it comes back.
Damn! It looks like they've dropped the whole series this time, rather than splitting it up into halves. I've got shit to do tomorrow, so I can't keep watching it tonight. I will say that it keeps getting better and the first episode was the weakest of the bunch.
Finished it. Liked it. Doctor-Agent Hobbes motivation makes him the of the Tick's universe. Lint's costume was a little hokey but that of course fits in with the show perfectly. “I am Edgelord. I walk between the rain drops.” But in his defense he seems really competent. I do hope Amazon doesn't fuck this up and gives it another season.
There was no "Spoon!" battle cry in this season, I noticed. Overall, I think that they did an excellent job with the season, and this one was better than the first.
They done fucked it up. The Tick is canceled. The Tick's Creator Has Given Up on Finding the Show a New Home
Jeez. The networks/content providers just don't seem to give this show any love. Both attempts were beloved by fandom, and both met untimely ends.
Why exactly did they cancel it? Were the ratings not up to snuff? People just didn't watch it? I can't blame a content provider / distributor for not spending money to make a product that isn't selling. I loved the Tick, but I can see why it might be "niche".
And tonight I learned that the guy who did the voice for Midnight is the same guy who did the voice for the Tick in the animated series.
