YES! I remember when about half the shows were in color, half black and white because color TV was just becoming widespread. Going color with Andy Griffith was jumping the shark IMO.
When we got our first colour TV my grandmother refused to watch her favourite soap on it because she said the colour made it less real... Oh, and I'm old enough to remember when there were only two channels, this side of the pond.
I remember seeing the Wizard of Oz on color tv for the first time. I had no idea that OZ was in color. It was so amazing to me how they went from b/w to color when the house landed.
Who the hell sells the set top boxes? I keep hearing about these but I have checked in stores and can't find them. This is a moneygrab crock.
I would assume places liek Best Buy and Circuit City would have them. I don't know if they carry them right now, but they will by the beginning of next year.
LOL! You are describing my ex-wife's current tv! Even down to the broken knob and pliers! (I shit you not!) And it's in a box wooden...thing... I had to buy my kids all have little tv's in their rooms so they can play games and watch videos...(I record shows for them, some stuff we watch for fun - Doctor Who, Family Guy - but a lot of Discovery Kids, Animal Planet, and The Science Channel...)
Here, almost anywhere that sells television sets or dvd players will carry set top boxes. Hell, I've even seen them in the supermarket.
From what I understand, the cable providers are not under the mandate that broadcasters are under. They will continue to send analogue standard definition signals as long as there is a profit (I don't think bandwidth is an issue). Worst case is cable boxes will be required to convert digital to analogue (they do this now) and you'll have to pony up the $5 per month rental to have one. And the cable companies WANT you to have a box so you can buy pay-per-view and subscribe to premium channels on impulse. Over air broadcasts? Who doesn't have cable these days? It seems if there is a mandate, it's to continue cable support for analogue tv until at least 2012. link
That's only true if you are among the TINY percentage of people who only use their antenna to get TV.
