Uhh, I don't know if you guys checked it out, but maybe I wasn't clear. This is not just an online dice roller, but one that can be used for an online forum session of D&D. You're suppose to be able to save character sheets, stats, etc. and it also keeps track of your rolls so people don't cheat. Well, it's suppose to do all this if you can fucking register and log in, which appears to be broken at the moment. :marathon:

I've seen dice rollers for years, as someone else has said, but that one is nice in that everything is public and retrievable over the internet so you know no one is cheating.

I do still have a bit of a programming mind, but at the same time, I have trouble focussing on anything for an extended period of time, or actually finishing the things I start. Until that changes, it's kind of pointless :P

I have quit being a DM for the summer. I was getting behind on generating plots and stories, so the break will be good. I can now think of ways to make the ending epic!

One of the players said I won my first encounter. They finally decided to confront the necromancer who ruled the ice island and at the end of it all, an NPC was killed, and in her rage, a PC tried to get back at the person who killed her, and ended up killing another PC instead.

The necromancer ended up getting away.

Not only that, the PC that died was the group's most senior D&D player. Wish I could've been there man, sounds like it's been epic in my absense. Stupid job :(

Kyle's brother Jordan was a guest at our table last week, and he took over Rygar for awhile, but there came a point where I had to take control of him for the story.

After the Necromancer ran away, Rygar got up into the balcony of Vileblood the Necromancer, and started rummaging around his things. Perrin was beside the dead body of Lucy, mourning. He thought it was disrespectful to be looting at this time.

Rygar started looking through Vileblood's things, and Perrin told him not to do it. Rygar continued anyways, and Perrin I think, started getting angry. This was when I said "Rygar redies a spell". I think after that, Lyndsay and Brian meta gamed it quite a bit. When a spellcaster readies a spell, it doesn't mean anyone knows, right? It's not like they wave their hands around or anything.

Perrin was at full health, and Rygar had just barely escaped being killed by the golem (A Cadaver Collector) and had like 3HP left, so I figured he wasn't about to throw a scorching ray on Perrin. But Perrin gagged Rygar anyways, (so that he wouldn't cast a spell.) and handed him off to Moginhedin.

After the game, I thought, Rygar just risked his life for the group, and was nearly killed by that golem. There really isn't any reason why the group would distrust him like that and gag him, unless the players themselves were meta gaming that they knew he was lawful-evil.

Yeah, that's kind of a dick move on their part. You should probably bring that up with Brian, see what he thinks should happen. Perrin never trusted Rygar though, and likely never would under ANY circumstances, so I don't think there was anything too wrong with that...however, I doubt Rygar will want to remain with such a party for very long, and may start scheming against them...or possibly just Perrin (assuming the rest of the party has no issues with him as yet). Could be an interesting twist if he doesn't just leave outright...

Dick move on who's part? Killing off a fellow PC? That, could be explained due to Saru being emotional. I think the players really didn't want Nina to die. She is their first real NPC death and a character that was a significant part of the plot, especially in Ft. Kaylea.

Maybe Perrin had no reason to trust Rygar, but he was just looting the spoils of war. That seems like a reasonable thing to do. Rygar was not trying to loot Lucy's body. I don't see how Moginhedin would so easily go along with gagging Rygar though, as I don't think he has really given them any good reason to not trust him up to this point. Yeah, he can sometimes get them into trouble (like when he turned into a hellhound on the boat.) but to gag him after he just risked their life? I dunno about that. But emotions were running high, so I can forgive that. Two allies just died, and the necromancer just got away.

Rygar did see the book he was going to take though. It was in Draconic, and it was a guide on how to become a lich. That little plot hook was for you.

No no, not killing the PC, it was a dick move on the party's part to basically say "screw you" to the party's mage. Remember the deal that he had upon joining the party - that he would function as party alchemist and mage, providing access to his potions and whatnot free of charge, and all he asked in return was the chance to acquire any tomes or scrolls they might chance upon. Sounds like he was finally getting payment and the party said "No, how about we don't live up to our part of the bargain after all." I'd say they've just made themselves an enemy, assuming you run it right. The party betrayed him, so he'd say fuck it and quit, but he'd definitely be nursing that grudge until such time as he is sufficiently powerful to eliminate the party (ie he succeeds in becoming a lich - which would be an amusing surprise considering it can take centuries for a lich to be recognizable by sight...).

OOO! You could also have it hurt their reputation! Rygar quits the party, and within a few game weeks the party starts getting a reputation as people who can't be trusted. A few well-placed comments would start the rumour mill, until all sorts of wild stories persist that have little basis in reality. There's already been a few issues with NPCs, so yeah, this could end up biting them big time. Maybe have Rygar sell the alchemist shop in Fort Kaylee and have him gain employment in the court of a high-ranking nobleman as an advisor (obviously working to his own ends). And remember, anything that happens (especially if Rygar becomes a Lich, heh heh heh) is entirely the party's fault - they created their own monster :)

This is why I don't like that alignments are public. I think the players themselves end up meta-gaming their attitudes towards other characters because they happen to be evil and are wary of them without giving good reason.

As for Rygar becoming a lich, he basically needs that book from them. Right now, Moginhedin has it in his backpack, but he doesn't know it's a manual on how to become a lich. Only Rygar knows, because he can read Draconic. I think Rygar would want to stick with the party a little while longer so he can steal the book. After that, he's pretty much gone. And yes, I've thought about Rygar acquiring the book from Moginhedin using other means, maybe teaming up with Hyde, Smokey, Lady Genevieve, or whoever else may be interested. Or maybe stealing it outright by hiring a rogue and leaving the inn door unlocked so they can just take the book while the party sleeps.

One thing Rygar was careless about though, is he asked Emerson the blacksmith about forbidden magic or items while in town. Assuming Emerson is not also lawful evil, why would Rygar have trusted him enough to ask him about this? You slipped there, I think.

Do what you gotta do man, but realize that he's likely plotting against them at this point...he may very well betray them first chance he gets. "Oops, I didn't mean to fire that Scorching Ray at the party's cleric..."

Hey, it just kinda dawned on me...the right way to play it is the way I would play it, since the character is my brain-child. The way I would play it is as such - I would no longer trust the party, and would not think twice about stabbing them in the back if it would serve my purpose. However, they would still be of use to me...so I feel a sort of "work to rule" campaign may be in order. Basically, just refuse to expend resources until payment is made. But perhaps don't make it apparent right away...wait until a major battle, where a caster would be near-essential to survival, then just sit back and watch. It likely wouldn't matter much in a mundane battle between a few bandits and the party - indeed, they may not think twice about the lack of support, thinking Rygar is just waiting for an opening...however, when he sits on his thumbs while an ice dragon decimates the party, that book will likely end up in his hands...at which point he'll help out for the battle and ditch. And if another opportunity arises to acquire it before then, well, take it. That's what I'd do as a player under these circumstances.

I think as soon as they take off his gag, profanities will come out. They really had no good reason to gag him at that point.

Also, I got another question. How does D&D handle emotions like sadness? Like, if something is cloaking an entire area and making everyone depressed and filled with despair? Do they get a -1 to attack rolls? Do they get more nightmares?

If it's an unnatural sadness, I'd use a disease track and have the players make Will saves to keep from descending deeper into depression.

Yeah, but what happens if the player doesn't make the will save? Are stats affected? And how many saves do they make? Every hour? Every day?

The disease example may be too complicated for what you're trying to accomplish. If you prefer the players only suffer the effects while they're in the affected area, you can instead do an Aura effect, where every round the players are within the aura it makes an attack vs. Will, and on a hit it causes players to take penalties to attack and saves, for example.

I looked through the DMG again this afternoon.

Players that are level 6 (like this party) are suppose to have character wealth at about 13,000gp each.

There are 5 players in my party, and they have, in total, 4067gp and 40 silver.

I still maintain that the DM should keep his game economy on the 'silver standard' throughout the entire 'hero' tier of the game. (Am I getting that right? The first ten levels, anyway...).

Barter, commodities, silver, hacksilver, coppers, with electrum and the occasional chunk of gold being a Big Deal.

Meh, gold is gold and you should have it a-plenty. The only time you shouldn't is when you're running an all-commoner campaign.

In my campaign, I've got an entire crafting method invented, kind of like in FFXI. Killing rock monsters will get you metal, killing plants will get you seeds, etc. And those can then be crafted into higher level equipment and potions.

Whenever they kill a wild animal or monster, I get them to roll a die and the higher they roll, the more valuable that item is. They can then go into town and sell it or keep it to craft something with. I find that unless it's armor or weapons, they usually sell it off. They don't seem to like making, buying or using consumables like potions, even though I've given them juices that basically restore some of their spells for the day. The only on who likes potions is the sorceress, who I gave Love potions to. Those make her mind controlling spells like charm, charm monster, command, and dominate person a +2 to resist. But they also drain HP at 1d6 for 3 rounds.

Our DM came up with a banking system run by the clerics. Each of us has a magic item that gives us power, but restricts our character (for the most part in a fun way). We spent the last two sessions buying a home and setting up a shop.
