I havea PS3 but I don't have Lara Croft or Street Racing. In fact, my PS3's main use is as a movie player.
The American version should play everything because it has a PS2 chipset build in... The European and future American versions use software emulation... You can check backwards-compatibality here: http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/
Actually, I think that there are still some compatibility issues in the chipped PS3s, though they aren't nearly as bad as when the console launched.
Glitchiness, not running, etc., etc. Don't recall any specifics, though I think there were a lot of audio issues. In any case, there should be compatibility lists online that you can check for anything you'd want to play (or, I would hope, incompatibility lists, since that should be the shorter one).
PS3 is a waste of money in my opinion. They turn down exclusives left and right and have lost several exclusives. Also, they still really don't have good online capabilities and the controls feel like they weigh an ounce and they don't vibrate. So, I would do what Rosencratz said or just buy a PS2.
PS3 doesn't have very many games right now, but that should change in the future. I'd just get a PS2 for now, and wait for a price drop on the PS3. A 360 might be worthwhile to look at depending on what sort of games you like. But if you own a PC, eventually 360 games end up on there too.
LOL. No, they do not. But you can keep dreaming, it's funny. Lemme know when Fable 2, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Too Human, Project Gotham Racing, Forza Motorsports, Ninety Nine Nights, Bioshock, Halo 3, Project Sylpheed, Vampire Rain, MotoGP 2006/7, Jade Empire, Phantom Dust, Blue Dragon, Splinter Cell 5, DOA4, DOA:Xtreme, Alan Wake, Beautiful Katamari, and the list goes on actually hit the PS2/3. The head of Konami's NA and Euro operations is even hinting at MGS4 coming to the 360 as well as the PS3. Sony is losing exclusives, not MS. Personally, I'd like to see most games multi-platform.
None of which I have any interest in playing. Not really. He said they might have to look at FUTURE MGS titles being multiplatform. This led many sensationalistic Xbox fanbois to think MGS4 would be coming to the Xbox. At this point, I think the best they can hope for would be MGS5 coming out multiplatform.
Did you read his quote, Konami's Director in the US/EU? If the PS3 doesn't pick up in sales, they won't have much of a choice. It would probably be a timed exclusive for PS3, like GTA use to be. I'm really not sure why PS fanboys get so worked up about PS games going to the 360... Dude, you're way more loyal to PS than I am to XBox. That you wouldn't want to play any of the games above, only goes to further prove it. Blue Dragon is created by those who originally created the tired and worn out Final Fantasy series you love oh so much, and you're saying you wouldn't want to play it? Give me a break. I can even admit I'd like to play FFXIII. Or Fable 2 or Mass Effect? Those are going to be some of the best RPGs ever developed, especially Mass Effect.
[yt=Mass Effect]WzXQBZ2Ee2I[/yt] Mass Effect looks like a fun sci-fi movie and from previews apparently has a really solid and consistent conversation system.
Ok but most of the games on most of the platforms become multiplatform... And Fable 2, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3 and Jade Empire will or have apeared on the PC... Beautiful Katamari might go PS3 as well i think...
The PS3 version of Beautiful Katamari got halted a few weeks ago, I think they will wait to see how the 360 version sells before deciding whether to release it or not.
Yep... now that PS3 has dropped to 500, it is an even more attractive Blu-ray player. I can't find the link atm, but I recall reading a couple months ago that PS3 actuallly delivered some of the highest picture quality of blu-ray players available at the time... and was priced at 600 vs 1000 for the standalone players (of course prices have changed now). Anyway. I could see myself buying a PS3 in the future if Blu-ray takes control of the HD-DVD vs Blu-ray war.
Which is a major difference when the PS2 came out with DVD playback... It wasn't/isn't that bad but they could've gotten better hardware for it for a little more money at the time...
Haven't seen much, if anything on Mass Effect (been really behind lately), but if you intend to look me in the eye and make the claim that Fable 2 is going to be one of the greatest rpgs ever then one of the following is true: You are incredibly naiive You've never played an RPG before You'll buy into anything that MS says about their own games Your head is way, way far up your ass Your eyes, ears, and thumbs have all been removed from your body. You simply don't know what the hell you are talking about. Your opinion differs greatly from mine on what exactly constitutes and RPG and more specifically a good RPG. The last option is most likely, but I really have to question what the hell kind of drugs you are on if you think that the fable franchise is going to become one of the best rpgs in the market these days. The only way I see Fable 2 even getting a passing grade is if it only has a strand of hair thin in common with Fable. Almost everything about the first game SUCKED COMPLETE ASS even for an action RPG. On a semi-related note, I did get a chance to play a demo of Eternal Sonata and found the game to be incredibly childish, borderline gay (as in gay like faeries and shit). The game graphically is good, the action turn based battle system is both interesting and a breeze to get used to, the environments get a little fruity (a field of brightly colored flowers and yay! floral dust???), and lastly, the item names, characters (vocals and other things) are all incredibly kiddie. The saving grace of the game is the battle system which could turn out to be really fun if you ever are allowed more than three main characters and other such things. On another note, I cannot wait til next month because I am buying Bioshock for my sister's boyfriend's 360.
^ Well, my opinion of you just dropped to 0. Fable was loved by many and the newest version will be as well.
It's only dropping to $500 for a short-while I've read/heard. Until the 60GB models sell out and they release the 80GB model again for $600.
I had heard that they were going to release an 80GB model for 600 but I never saw anything about stopping production on the 60GB version.
