Pretty much the same "movie magic" that lets us believe a middle-aged John Wayne is keeping up with the young grunts while kicking ass in WWII. It kills me seeing a 50 year old man playing a 20 year old private.
The guy's hilarious and really quite well-spoken. He can not only take some ribbing, but makes fun of himself quite a bit too - even managed to mention The Party at Kitty and Stud's.
I've read a few articles + interviews by Sly. He does have his head together more than most Hollywood folk. I thought he was great in "Copland."
Had I not seen the previous 5 movies several times over I would not have been impressed with the latest Rocky outing. It's a bit too sentimental for my tastes and I didn't hink much of the Mason character, but I liked Stallone's performance, definitely an underrated actor. Paulie was great too.
John Wayne has never played anything less than a sergeant (who can be much older than the other enlisted guys) and nothing less than a major in any military movie after "Sands of Iwo Jima" in 1949.
Definitely. I just watched the first RAMBO after many years and it's really good. In my mind it always mixed up with the other two that are ... less than perfect. But still not bad, at least the second one. The third is rather funny to watch given current world politics
My Dad and I used to love watching the first Rambo movie together "First Blood". He enjoyed mocking the gung ho National Guardsman (Dad didn't care for the National Guardsman he served with). But I thought what made that movie was Richard Crenna as Johnny Rambo's "father figure" and Brian Dennehy who gave life to the stereotypical "small town sheriff". Incidentally, in the book that the movie "First Blood" was based on, Johnny Rambo was a very brutal and merciless killer who killed some 200 people in his rampage. Stallone didn't want to play such a character so the movie originally reduced that number to a dozen or so killed. The final cut of the movie reduced that number to only a couple of people killed by Rambo. Both in self defense. Also in the book, Rambo escaped from the police station...stark naked.
Saw it. Liked it- a good way for old Rocky to go out. I liked the outtakes at the end during the credits when they showed Joe Public dancing and shadowboxing at the top of the steps in Phillie.
