The producers of most of the pictured items are in China. I wouldn't even know how to contact them for permission to use the images. The other alternative is, I could maybe use 3D modeling software to render approximations of the devices under discussion. Or I could stick with images of only American-made versions of the hardware, that way I can actually communicate with the manufacturers and get permission to use the images for discussion purposes.

So here's a status update on the progress of the book: I'm about 80% done with the hardware section, which constitutes Part 1. There are 3 parts: Technical stuff (hardware systems, system components and eliquids), Politics/Science, and Etiquette.

The Etiquette section will breeze by, the Technical section is, again, just about done, and the PoliSci section may take a day or two.

So what does all that mean? Between finishing composition and then rereading to make sure I didn't repeat myself (which I may have done in a couple places), we're looking at submitting it hopefully by Monday, from which point it should be live on Kindle by Wednesday.

The page count looks to be in the 95-125 page range, and if it was a fiction work, I would ask less for it, but because it's on a technical nonfiction subject, price will be $4.99. Thoughts/discussion welcomed.

I actually answered this when NuForge was still TestingForge, but it looks like the answer didn't stick.

Yes, Bailey and Ed will receive copies of the book gratis. Least I can do for their help.

Mr. Bailey, one last request: If you could produce a back cover with the same image but with this text:

"Vaping", the use of electronic cigarettes, is taking the smoking world by storm. In this book, vaper, novelist and screenwriter John Castle explains what vaping is, lays out the various types of electronic cigarettes, accessories and "e-liquids" in the wide and ever expanding marketplace, and predicts the future of this popular alternative to cigarette smoking. Along the way, you'll get amusing glimpses into his journey into this new and exciting frontier technology, safety tips, and his personal recommendations for the best hardware and eliquids money can buy.

--I would so very much appreciate it.

@Bailey Just the same style as long as the overall color matches the front. I don't know if the book will be thick enough, at ~30,000 words, to need a spine. I'll have to look at the page size CreateSpace uses for the books it prints out to get some idea of how many pages the book will be based on the word count, and then how thick it will be based on the page count.

    Roger that.

Any aspect ratio or resolution requirements?

Only that it match the front cover image dimensions and that the text is legible.

Yes. KDP says the image has to be at least 1,000px on the long side.

I could produce a version where the smoke flows from the front to the back cover, but that would take time to find a good source image and I won't have time to do that today.

The Ten Commandments are nice. :)

But shouldn't "shalt" go with an infinitive, as you did it in "thou shalt ask" and "shalt be respectful", rather than "shalt giveth" and "shalt keepeth"? And did you hide XI deliberately, hoping you wouldn't get caught?

Yeah, truth to say, I'm not really any more of an expert on Elizabethan English than the average Joe... but given that, I doubt the average Joe will mind much.

As for XI, which I just noticed: Son of a bitch...

Already live hey, congrats. I'll get the full res covers mailed to you in a few hours when I'm at my pc.

Just looking at the Amazon preview of the first few pages, it seems like formatting may be a little broken? Not sure how accurate that preview is. Also no contents page?

I noticed that, too, although I don't have the money to buy my own book yet ( ) so I have no way to see how it comes out in the Kindle app. I composed using Scrivener and then did my best to iron out the formatting using Pages. I may have to give it another go and update the book in the Kindle Store. Also (hate to admit it) I have no idea how to set up a table of contents that actually works with chapter links.

Clearly, you wanted to hint at the Eleventh Commandment, Thous Shalt Not Get Caught, for those in the know, and vex those who aren't.

Fixed. Also, formatting fixed. Also, ToC added. So it'll be "In Review" for another 12 hours, but it should be back up faster, stronger, better, etc. after that.

Huh. Didn't take 12 hours. Also still doesn't have a ToC. Mother fuck. Oh, well.

So I have another nonfiction book in mind; this one a Libertarian screed of sorts. Anyone comfortable coming up with a cover image for an outing like that? The basic idea so far:

Title: Mad, Bad, And Dangerous To Know:
Subtitle: Reflections Of A Vulgar Libertarian
Basic colors/image: Dark background with American Colonial flag on flagpole, resting not blowing. The American colonial flag I mean is this one:

    Colonial-Flag-13-Colonies.jpg

Because of the antiquity of the flag I'm looking for, the image would probably have to be composed and rendered in CGI.

I'll give it a try, I'll need a day or two to get to it.
