I get UA is full of shit. However, I think there is a better alternative to banning hate speech, and it is one that does not involve legislation. It is also as effective and pervasive as hate speech. It is called welcoming people and actually caring about those members of you community that get hit by hate. Actually standing up for people and actually apreciating them as allies shows people that they are not on the outside and that the hater is the one who is actually the loser asshole.

The problem I have with the banning of hate speech is that though it is necessary and should be done, it is the least possible thing you can do. I get it is hard. every time I am around people my head is screaming not to make eye contact, don't say too much or they will talk to you, or OMFG there are people here, run and find a hole. But if I can get over those things and make smalltalk, so can you. Unless you are really autistic and then you have other problems.

You have to remember, you can actually make people feel better by aknowledging them, being polite, and talking to them like they matter. Part of the reason why the churchgoing people are so united in their groups are that they are welcoming and go out of their way to be inclusive to those who they want around. Be welcoming to those different people and you end up making people feel as they are part of something. This is within your power, and it fucks with the hate like you would not believe.

All that's been posted so far is just graffiti. How is this anywhere near an eye for an eye?

Catholics, like all conservative power-mongers, love things more than people, and things that project their legacy most of all.
You wanna hurt 'em, go after their shit.

I'm just glad the Catholic Church have been called out on "the rod and the staff" comforting the flock.

I 100% support seizing Catholic Church property until their debt is paid, or if the authorities won't allow it to be seized, depriving them of it with generous amounts of fire.

Apply it equally to mosques, synagogues and whatever Scientologists call their whack shacks, and I'm in.

Scientologists, absolutely yes. But other than Catholics and Scientologists, no religion I know of has the rigid bureaucratic hierarchy that justify that sort of collective guilt and punishment. There's no Islamic Pope, or King of the Jews. (Depending who you ask.) Maybe the Anglicans?

I don't have a problem with religion or personal spiritual beliefs.

The problem comes when those who believe wish to impose those beliefs on others and force others to believe the same. THAT is what I have a problem with.

If the Catholic Church murdered (even through negligence) children, then those churches need to pay. Other religions that did not participate should not have to pay.

    holy shit yes taxes

if they're doing real charity work, make them break out those efforts for separate accounting, like a building that's half residential homes and half private businesses.

Wikipedia says there are different branches of Shia Islam that follow different lines, so I'd think probably not? The individual lines themselves could be grouped separately, sure. Tibetan Buddhism, maybe? I don't know how rigid their system is.

I'd include any smaller scale denominations that have a recognized authoritative leader at the top as well.

JWs, Mormons, and at least one other Protestant denomination have all been caught quietly covering up the same kind of shit the Catholics have been doing.

Twelvers have a whole clerical system, the highest level being a Grand Ayatollah (basically the priestly class/hierarchy of Zoarastrianism just switched religions when Persia was converted to Islam).

That's a double-edged sword. I am on record, many times, saying that churches should have to pay taxes so I can say whatever I want, whenever I want.

It's one thing to address something, like abortion, when the concept of Imago Dei is in whatever text you are exegeting that day. It's another thing entirely to tell your congregation that they will be held eternally accountable for all the deaths caused by abortion during the Biden Administration if they voted for him.

Christianity is declining in the United States, but it is not an insignificant number. Especially considering that the poll I heard about today said that 80% of those polled feel that abortion should be illegal in the third trimester and 65% of those polled feel that abortion should be illegal in the second and third trimesters. You let pastors start naming names from the pulpit and it may not have the reaction you desire.

The moment you let the government tax the churches is the moment government can control churches.

Better than the other way around - considering the damage done by “Christianity” in the US in the last 40 years.

That’s an average of 215 bodies per school. There’s almost 500 more to examine. The total number will probably be 100K or more.
