    https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/08/17/us/mormon-church-name-trnd/index.html

As a side note not even Mormons want to be called Mormons any more.

As for FLDS and LDS... They used to be one group but FLDS broke away when Morons decided to end polygomyism which had been standard practice during the groups early cult like phase. The early cult leaders had dozens of "wives" just as one would expect in a cult.

So the US government in the 19th century put a ton of pressure on Mormons to stop this and it is a concession they extracted in order to approve Utah's statehood. The LDS approved so the FLDS became schismatic and broke away. This is similar to what happened when Southern Baptists broke away from the American Baptist Conference objecting to ABC declaring all races were equal and slavery to be wrong and sinful. Southern Baptists were so angered by this they had a schism.

It is wrong to say LDS and FLDS are not related though as doctrinally FLDS continue to original practices of LDS prior to the forced reforms the US government demanded of the LDS in the 19th century.

I understood that entirely, enabler. I also understood the subtext of an attack upon family members. Try to not be such an enabler of bad behavior. Stand up men do not attack other people's family members nor imply such; if they have something tonsay to someone then they say it directly to that person without beating around the bush.

Tey to be a stand up man.

I know. I am talking about the whole use of name. Both of these offenders have long hostories of going after family members though which is why I am taking them to task.

They need to stop such things and even they know it.

    :dayton:

(Not you, @Dinner, but to the church. This time.)

The church is trying to have its cake and eat it too. "Don't call us Mormons" has been a thing since forever, only for them to embrace it in its PR campaigns (ie, Mormon.org). Unless this is some stupid reverse psychology thing, the church can go fuck itself on what the rest of the world calls it. Mormon, LDS, very accurate names for the church and its members.

Oh, and Dinner? :dayton: on general principal :bigass:

Since the year 2000, there have been at least three giant sex scandals involving the Catholic Church in the US alone. There's this one, one in Wisconsin, and the one in Boston exposed by the Globe. Given the fact that the number of victims (as well as abusers) run into the thousands (if not tens of thousands), you'd think that every state attorney general out there (if not the US Attorney General) would be looking at the church and saying, "We probably should investigate these guys." I'm no lawyer, but I'd think that with everything we've seen so far, charging the church under the RICO statute would be entirely justified.

I imagine it's considered too dangerous politically to go after the church like that, regardless of how much they deserve it. What you really need is journalists digging into this in every city in every state, building a case that's too big for the cops to ignore once it gets presented to the public. :async:

Depending who you ask, the UK might be overrun by Muslim pedo rape gangs that the police do their best to ignore. :async:

Mostly though, it's just the authorities not giving a shit about rape in general. :(

Quoting your post one why Mormonism is a cult, and again bolding what is flat out wrong:
These arguments are weak in that even 'jack Mormons' wouldn't even deny it. It's an important distinction for the LDS to differentiate themselves from mainstream Christianity. The reverence for Joseph Smith and Brigham Young, by the way, doesn't supercede the focus on and worship of the Godhead (the Mormon term for the Trinity).
Using these as your examples elicits nothing more than a 'meh' from everyone involved -- those you may be trying to make 'see the light', and those who have a vested interest in seeing the church brought down a few pegs.

So, here's your chance. Convince me Mormonism is a cult. Oh, and don't bother with the South Park episode. I've seen it, dum dum dum dum dum.

I wouldn't say love of any one particular sport is the cause of America's problems. In other words whether football is extremely popular or not our many complicated issues affecting America would still be here just the same. Personally I feel educators should be paid more and schools should be for learning first & foremost.

True of course. But the fact remains that a kick ass physics department doesn't put 80,000 people in the stadium on a Saturday paying over three million dollars for the privilege.

No, but a kick ass physics department results in a significantly more educated student. Such students in the long term will stand a greater chance of contributing to the sciences and/or educated professions, and constructively in society in general, than someone who mostly only knows how to throw a large egg around a pitch.

Not necessarily. Lots of American universities do not use their best and brightest minds for teaching. They use their best and brightest to conduct independent research in the quest for government research grants and such.

Of course you wouldn't, Coach :garamet:
Nevermind that you went to colleoge when tuition was substantially less than it is now, even adjusting for inflation.

Nonetheless, I do agree this isn't the only factor.
