"Known secret" in the film industry. I've seen it mentioned in articles in print and online. Disney won't admit it, but everyone else who's been made hip to the old "Leo the Lion" anime recognizes it as fact.
Ah. Yea, like I said upthread, I stumbled across one, and found quite a bit of info out there. I was beginning to think I was crazy, that my memories were really memories, since no one I've ever talked to remembered Kimba.
I knew exactly what forum I was in. Too bad you didn't read Lanz's comments before you made this one.
I was surprised to stumble onto the sequel to Kimba, which was another anime series of him grown up. I've only ever seen a bit of one episode, but I'd love to see the whole thing some day.
I didn't know there was a movie until I stumbled on the aforementioned websites. I used to watch the series when I was like 3 and 4 years old. After I'd moved around a bit and asked different people about it (none of them having ever heard of it), I thought it was just a regional thing. But, talking to people who were kids at that time and living in the Detroit area, none of them had heard of it either. Imagine my surprise to find such a big following to the show 40 years later.
Finally saw Avatar last weekend. My review: three hours I'll never get back. Seriously, what a god awful movie. All of the reasons why have already been hashed and rehashed, so I'll just say that everything other than the SFX was terrible. Why people crapped all over themselves to praise this piece of shit is beyond me. Taken out of the context of the late-2009 "ohmygodyouhavetoseethis!!!!" hysteria, the movie just plays like an overthought, underwritten mess that doesn't take a single twist or turn that you don't see coming a mile away. A far better movie would have been when the EVIL MINING COMPANY and the HEROIC NATIVE AMERICAN STAND-INS were fighting, the Death Star came and just blew up the planet. The end.
I stand by all my previous posts in this thread. Thank you HBO, your free preview weekend has given me the free validation I was not willing to pay for. Now to delete this pile of shit from my DVR to make room for the upcoming season of nuWho.
I've caught snippets of it on HBO/Cinemax/whatever and, much like Titanic, I doubt that I'll ever sit through the entire crapfest.
Yep, godawful film. Everything about it is steaming dog poo. Except the gfx, it really is stunning to watch
