Being compelled to participate by a government (hypothetically) led by this man is something that won't happen. I don't think that we've been broken to the point that we'll just blindly sidle up to the table and dutifully eat the dish he's talking about setting before us.

What should be a red flag is the arrogant presumption that motivates someone to say "you will not be allowed to disengage, you will have to participate", or "we are going to take things away from you for (your own) the common good)".

It's a mindset that hinges on the idea that government, and certain personalities within it, know what's good for the collective 'you", and will do whatever they think is best, regardless of how you feel about it.

Regardless of what kind of "I'm in touch and connected/I'm open to your suggestions/I feel your pain" rhetoric these candidates sling during the campaign, their heads are still in a "I'll do what I want and you'll like it" kind of place.

Despite the surprisingly wide spread discontent with the quality of candidates, seems to me this election will return a mandate that Americans are happy with the slippery slope, and more of the same will be just fine thankyouverymuch.

Heh. It is telling to me that the party that talks the loudest about helping the Little Guy is also the party that tries to prevent the Little Guy from having any say in things--super delegates, etc.

Unfortunately that is what it will more than likely come down to. Obama being President will be bad news for the country. I doubt that he will be much better than Jimmy Carter.

It is a shame that we are forced to accept the choice of the two major parties. We are being forced to choose between McCain, or Obama. :vomit:

It's our own goddamned fault. 98% Congressional incumbents reelected with a 22% approval rating, and we keep sticking with the two major parties, despite the fact that they have shown up time and again that they don't give a shit about America, only staying in power.

If anyone else is culpable, it's the media, who have an agenda and who essentially pick who is and is not a viable candidate anymore.

We really need to fix the system, but I'm afraid that it won't be pretty if we do.

I'd head to the frontier if one still existed. I'll vote, but the saying is right: it's too late to fix the system and too early to throw the bastards up against the wall.
