Yeah, things like that never turn out well. I've lived around people like that (most of them family), and I've always made myself scarce when that happens. High running emotions are always going to lead to worse when the police show up.
That is true. I saw pictures of sweet little old ladies like they were just taking a tour of the building, but the truth is that these people did enter under the threat of coercion, of violence, and in such a case, walking around like it's part of the tour is a very dangerous thing to do, and you're equally culpable when you do that, little old lady or not. It's not like they didn't know it was going on. "I went in because everyone else was" isn't a very good reason.
Those people broke the law though, non violent or not If someone broke into your house, wandered around and left you'd still call the cops and they'd still get arrested
I agree on this. If you're breaking in and trying to kill politicians, yeah, that's terror. If you're walking around because you showed up to what you thought was a protest, and you're there when the police show up but you haven't actually done anything, I believe trespassing is more than adequate.
I'm seeing a ton of punishments here that are community service, home detention, fines, probation, etc, not hard jail time https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_proceedings_in_the_January_6_United_States_Capitol_attack
That's all I've been saying, but certain people like to label them terrorists no matter the circumstances. The J6 committee tried doing this and its no wonder that certain footage wasn't shown. Also, if you look at some footage, people were shoved into the building and the police shot tear gas into the crowd before things got out of hand. Nobody wants to talk about that.
All that does is dilute the actions of the people whose intent was to murder the VP and other officials. There definitely were people there wanting to do just that, and they need to be held responsible. Everyone else, though? It's a mix of well meaning people, assholes, and instigators. The police certainly don't help because their job is to silence dissent. I'm an advocate of protests and believe they are a fundamental right of all people. Even if I disagree with them. There are mitigating circumstances. For example, I do consider members of the KKK and actual Nazis to be terrorists by default because of their ideologies (the eradication of non-white people). For everyone else, though, GOP protest, Democratic protest, anti-war protests, all protected speech under the Constitution. We start considering that terrorism, and there are politicians who want that to be policy, then we are well and truly fucked.
Jan 6 was about terrorists trying to overthrow a free and fair election. Those are the ones being talked about. I'm sure there were some people who just got caught up in things are disconnected their brains the way tourists of all stripes can do, but as Ten Lubak points out there has been a range of sentences. Also worth considering is that for all of the people who have been charged, no one is claiming that everyone who was there has been charged. I would venture to say that no even everyone who has been identified has been charged. Y'know, prosecutorial discretion which MAGAtards rail against when they don't like it, is definitely in play here.
they followed a forcible entry into the building and that's non violent? so if me and a friend break into your house, but she beats the snot out of you while I admire your stamp collection, I'm in the clear?
There was some forcible entry, yes, but there's also footage of cops opening the doors and waiving people in.
That is true. I remember watching it live, and there were cops moving barriers, others waving people through. It was the weirdest damn thing.
That was a show of respect for my turderuneness, and he can stick it in the glory hole where it belongs.
Yeah, but you aren't on meth. Things like that look a lot more enticing when you are on meth from what I can tell. This is why I have yet to touch the stuff. I have been knee deep in garbage and shit in a horder's basement high on DXM and other fun, I have done IV coke and heroin. I have smoked PCP to see what it feels like. Meth is one of those things I will be saying no to for the rest of my life. Meth makes you do some crazy ass shit.
There was enough violence and chanting where anyone with decent morals who was not trying to terrorize people by threatening the highest pillar of legislation in our country should have been aware now was not the time to go trapsing through the building in a mob.
There comes a certain point where you are knowingly following the mob to do something wrong. It is a lesser thing, but it is still terrorism at it's heart. They were present to intimidate and terrorize inside the building. I would say the same of any BLM member who accompanied the people who broke into buildings and surrounded cops without interfering with the assaults. If you stayed outside and did not direct people to go inside on your behalf like some of the proud boy leaders did, then I could say you were just a protestor who got caught up in the flow of things and did not deserve to be punished. Once you walked in the doors or started pushing against the police you had gone from peaceful protest to antagonizing.
That does not mean you go in. That is not an excuse. A riot does not become legal because an officer of the law tells you it is ok. That is not a thing. If a cop is in a bank and wacves me on to take a huge bag of cash that is not mine it does not make it legal to take it. WTF is wrong with you. Down in the south the police used to organize lynchings. Does that make them ok? In Nazi Germany it was legal to attack and kill jews, does that make it ok because the government at the time ordered people to do that? God damn you are stupid. What if one of the cops shouted to hang mike pence, does that mean they were cool to hang mike pence? Oh yeah we thought murder was suddenly ok because a cop told us it was so we just went around killing the vice president of the united states. You are extra stupid today.
Oh, apology letters? All is forgiven, then. They should have put "do you forgive me?" with boxes to check Yes or No for maximum effect, though.
Should have phrased it: "I apologize to the citizens of the State of Georgia and Fulton County that my involvement in Count 15 of the indictment upset you."
Jury Orders Giuliani to Pay $148 Million to Election Workers He Defamed Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, wrongfully accused by Rudolph W. Giuliani of having tried to steal votes from Donald J. Trump in Georgia, were awarded the damages by a federal court in Washington.
He'll never be able to come up with that kind of money, but the judgment and subsequent legal actions to collect will make his life a living hell for the rest of his days. I am filled with Schadenfreude.
