Anyone still play 'em? Aside from chess, I mean. I have a small collection of old favorites for when me and friends are stuck in doors on a wintery/rainy day. Have classic Monopoly, Risk, Stratego, Sorry, Axis & Allies (original), Hero Quest, and of course Chess. I know that they are still coming out with plenty of new board games every year but I haven't really played any of the newer ones.
fuck yes! I love board games. Yahzee, Clue, Stratego, Monopoly, Risk, Chess, Sorry, Careers, Pictionary, Trouble. Man, they're so much fun
I never have anyone to play most of them with, but occasionally UA will play scrabble or mastermind with me.
Risk Stratego Trivial Pursuit Strat-O-Matic Baseball Scrabble Sitting around a table (or in a circle on the floor) playing a game is more fun than sitting in front of a computer screen.
I used to have the Star Trek version...never could get anyone to play more than once cause I was always winning.
If it's just the original series, animated series, movies, and TNG then I'd do well at that game. My lack of knowledge of DS9, VOY, and ENT would be my downfall.
We've started playing chess quite a lot for some reason OH is really good at it, too -- I was quite confident in being able to beat him but he'll defeat me easily in four out of five games. We have a lot of other board games but don't really play them that often. Unless there is a fad of doing so.
The wife and I play Settlers of Cataan every now and then. I play Babylon 5 Wars when I can get some friends together. Wife loves Scrabble, though I don't care for it that much. I've played tons of board games over the years, starting with Avalon Hill in the early 80s. My favorites were Dune, Magic Realm, Gunslinger, Panzer Leader, Bismarck, Midway, Africa Corps, and D-Day, and Star Fleet Battles from Task Force Games.
Monopoly and Clue. I have "old" (as in, 10-year-old) memories of playing monopoly with my cousins. Very fun in a large group!
Blokus, Scategories, WarHammer 50K (I think thats the number), Hero Quest, Hero Scape (the bastard cousin of Hero Quest, and both are the bastard children of D&D's mating with WarHammer), Scrabble, Cranium, Pictionary... Can't think of any others but we keep a pretty good rotation.
We used to play Monopoly, Risk, Cosmic Encounter, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, and Jenga back when I was in the Navy. Marathon all-night sessions. When we weren't playing poker, of course. After that, my circle of friends would play Trivial Pursuit and Pictionary more than just about anything else. Then I discovered BattleTech . . .
Battletech Rep! ( but can't...because rep is acting up again. ) The first one was awesome, then the subsequent ones got too complicated. Another one I used to play a lot was Fireball Island. I wish they remade that game, because I would buy it for sure. Also 'Frustration' was so much fun. You had these little pieces you would have to move around in a circle with a 'pop dice' in the middle of the board. I was just thinking about it today, and how deep this game actually could be. Not only did you have to worry about getting your guys to the end first, but you had to contend with people kicking you back to home base if they landed on your square.
God, we have so much shit. I love Scrabble, Mind Trap 1 and 2....though we really don't play it so much as just taking turns asking questions. Quarto, STNG Monopoly, Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, Star Wars Monopoly, Star Wars Life, Lord of the Rings Risk, Battle of the Sexes, Fact or Crap, Worst Case Scenario game, Star Wars Electronic Battleship, Scrabble, Scene It DVD Trivia Game, Deal or No Deal DVD Game, Dragon Dice, Yahtzee, Checkers, Happy Bunny Evil Checkers, oh just a shitload of crap. Chess....but we love to play Knightmare Chess..if anyone knows what that is! We have about three bookshelves overflowing with role playing games (table top kind), a couple of CCGs. Basiclaly we have a room that is all gaming, books and movies.
Oooh - haven't played trouble in a long time! Since buying the Star Trek version got UA to play monopoly with me, I tried buying the Simpsons version of Clue....no luck. We also have pictionary and battleship and chinese checkers and scattegories and.... guess who. Yes, I know it's for ages 3-10 and I don't care...I like sorry, too.
The best thing about Cranium is watching people trying to do impersonations. It makes me laugh so hard. The funniest bit is when one of the other players actually gets the right answer.
