You understand that democratic socialist countries have higher standards of living than our oligarchy? They live longer, are happier, have more time off, there's less infant and child mortality, and their total tax burden is near the same. They also have fewer barriers to entry in changing socio-economic mobility. US is 17th out of 18th in that, after only the UK. Denmark does the American dream better than America does. All this data has been out here for decades. I remember 20 years ago here I was being told by the likes of Paladin that these countries could not continue in this manner. Two decades later, they still continue to do so. But at least we aren't in debt... oh.... Intelligence means being able to process new information and come to new conclusions. There's an absolute void there among the right now.
If I could give you 50% of a million dollars or 20% of ten million dollars, which would you take? But the 20% is a smaller share!!!
You will never get it. Will you? You just keep buttsnorkling the likes of Bezos and Musk, you'll be fine.
You mean, free-market capitalism. Nah. Other countries did the same. They also acted wisely, by imparting price controls. Again, we've seen decades of data of western democratic socialist countries doing so. They not only kept prices down, they've made it so effective that they can attract new contacts and ideas by allowing foreign students to go to their colleges free of charge. https://collegenews.org/top-7-count...ucation-to-international-students-as-of-2020/ The problem isn't that they had governmental involvement. The problem is they didn't have enough. If higher education were more affordable then we could have a more informed populace while still allowing for multiple ways of earning a living afterward. Shit on the people, despite knowing that the boom in the 50s and 60s wasn't due to American exceptionalism but due to the damage of WWII everywhere else, and seeing how other countries have successfully adapted harnessing capitalism to the social needs of the people, instead of the reverse.
Has the relic of a bygone age written by horrible white slave owners actually delivered equality of opportunity?
Individual rights take many forms. Sometimes they take the form of the right to inflict harm on other individuals. Those seem to be the Right's favorite kind.
Rights of the "unborn" supersede the rights of grown women. Rights of gun owners supersede the rights of children not to be afraid.
The right to reject all public health measures. The right to pollute. The right to exploit one's employees. Go back a few years, and conservatives used to be pretty big on the right to own other people.
The Democratic Party, the party of slavery, the KKK, Jim Crowe, segregation and now communism and socialism. Always on the winning side of history.
The rights of an innocent supersede the rights of an adult capable of making rational choices. The right to self-defense trumps all other rights, because without it no other rights are enforceable. No, I said what I meant. Short term versus long term thinking. Free market capitalism works perfectly well under either approach, but if you think long term it does far less harm. Like everything else. The problem is that under our (American) model, government provided only half of the solution - the guaranteed loans. If government also provided the schooling, there would be no need for the loans, and thus no personal debt incurred, because everyone would be paying for college thru taxes. Our colleges are run as for-profit endeavors, much as they would claim otherwise, and that's a major driver of the cost explosion. Missing the point. Pointing every kid at a master's degree means a surplus of labor in some fields and a drastic shortage in others. Remove the emphasis on the degree and allow more individual freedom to choose a career, let kids know that they can make as good a living as an HVAC tech as an HVAC engineer and things even out. No free the people from the idea that it's all about grabbing as much as you can and screw everybody else and get them back to the idea of community. Those other countries you mention have not "harnessed capitalism to the social needs of the people," they've layered half-assed socialism over half-assed capitalism. In a society that raised each new generation properly, people would be nudged away from self-centeredness and it would be more about what they could do to help than what they expect to be handed to them.
Since you've referred to yourself as a "historian" in the past, I can't imagine you're stupid or ignorant enough to actually believe you've made a salient point here, so I'm forced to conclude you're just being intentionally dishonest.
You forgot to mention Robert Byrd was once a member of the KKK. You were that close to hitting the superfecta.
Was a time when it'd be the Conservatives saying "your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins". I'm sure they'd be SO fucking proud of you.
He's had this point repeatedly torn down, and he just hits the reset button on his memory, and repeats it like nothing ever happened. I think he expects US to forget. Like, no, dude, not how it works. Even if we all had the memory of goldfish, we have your old posts to look at. That's how boards work.
Explain to me why "the party of Lincoln" wants to suppress the black vote now. How did you guys get there? Could it have been a big platform change in the 60's? Could it? C'mon, history expert. Show me your stuff. Razzle-dazzle me.
The fallacy of responding to an opponent's argument by changing the subject to the person who gave the subject, introducing the false assumption that a person of this sort cannot offer an argument worth considering.http://web.mnstate.edu/gracyk/courses/phil 101/BasicFallacies.htm
He's not referring to your past in order to debunk your bogus "argument." He's referring to your past in an attempt to figure out whether you're being stupid or just dishonest.
But it's not changing the subject, it's same exact damned subject. I thought historians could see how everything connects. Good ones, anyway. Shit, if you're who they're giving fancy pieces of paper to, maybe I should have gotten one, I'm dancing circles around your ass.
Who cares? There's only one party in your country calling for equality in the here and now and it ain't the Republicans. That's what matters now
And stayed that way forever, and never changed, which is why it's the Democrats who are furious they lost Georgia, and are trying to rig it so that never happens again. Oh, wait....
Ah yes, another self proclaimed victory from Dicky. I only wish in sports I could have proclaimed myself to be the winner, high school would have been awesome.
