But its not the good stuff, the real thing. Now, they had some in Prague that was supposed to really fuck you up bad. I was afraid to drink something like that in a country that was strange to me, and afraid to try and smuggle a bottle back either. The kind like they sell in our local ABC store doesn't have the hallucinogens and stuff in it.
Thinking on this some more. One way to make a good tasting drink that almost always goes over well at a party. Buy some peach scnapps, its not usually expensive and then mix with orange juice for a fuzzy navel and add ice. Women seem to really like these and they are inexpensive and easy to make. I usally take a blender and fill it 3/4 full with ice pour in about 4 ounces of peach scnapps and then a large scoop of frozen orange juice from one of those frozen cartridges you can keep in the freezer. You might have to add a little water but in makes a great frozen fuzzy navel.
You should at least try Marinetti's favorite drink, the Negroni. http://www.cocktailtimes.com/gin/negroni.shtml Basically, Gin, Campari and sweet Vermouth.
My fave is Gin & Tonic, with a decent gin like Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire. Serve over rocks with a slice of lime. Nice, crisp drink...not too overpowering on the flavor, and won't burn your throat going down. If you like pineapple juice, a good one is a Pinecone: 1.5 oz Southern Comfort whiskey (note: MUST BE SoCo...not other whiskey is sweet enough to pull this off!!) 1 oz Amaretto Pineapple juice. Serve over rocks in a tall glass, garnish w/ pineapple wedge and a cherry. Tequila shots are always good. Just remember...Salt, then tequila, then lime! There are some damned expensive tequilas out there now, but you can do just fine with good ol' Jose Cuervo or Pepe Lopez. I'm not much on scotch, bourbon, or whiskey. The taste doesn't float my boat. In college for a couple years there was a big "Sloe Gin fizz" kick...basically a shot of Sloe Gin (not the same as regular Gin!!) mixed with Sprite or 7up. For getting shitfaced, you can always try Kamikazes: 1 oz Vodka 1 oz Triple sec 1 oz Lime juice Mix together, serve over rocks.
Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire are fundamentally different gin types, in my opinion. Bombay is far more "artificially" flavored with more types of spices, though not badly so. Tanqueray is a classic gin, very well balanced with a complexity that does not seem glued-on... in my opinion a much better choice.
The object is to do it and slam down your glass before the other guy doing it along with you can do the same. I've done it, and I've won. I'm a traitor to my Scottish heritage. I've drunk Irish whiskey.
Classic Thai Whiskey. Half glass Moonshine Half glass Urine (own) 2 pills of Treo Comp Dissolve, sink. Old party trick in our circles.
Went to the Elephant Bar today, described the glass of Guiness + half shot of Bailey's + half shot of Irish whiskey recipe to the bartender, and he says "Oh, you mean an Irish Car Bomb." "Yes, that's what I mean." I'm thinking this is some obscure drink, and it turns out every one knows it but me. A waitress who knows me even asked "Did I just see you drinking an Irish Car Bomb?" Goes down easy...tastes like chocolate milk at the end. Hits you surprisingly hard ten minutes later.
Glenmorangie. If it's good enough for a 400+ year old Scot, it's good enough for you. View attachment 7465
I drink pretty much everything. Agree with Dan though, there is something to be said for a good quality British ale. I've also developed a taste for decent quality red wine. Seriously, I could quite happily sit and nurse a bottle + of it over the course of an evening. (Not sure what that says about me right enough)
This is a rather unknown drink from central PA, but when I was in Harrisburg, I tried what was called a "Nuts & Berries" which is basically a mix of frangelico, Chambord, and cream. DELICIOUS. **I forgot, make sure you pour it on the rocks. Tumbling helps, but is not required.
I come up with a lot of things, sooo: Bailey's cocktails - these also make good bases for panna cotta's Hazelnut: Baileys, Frangelica and cream Raspberry: Baileys, Chambord and cream Strawberry Shortcake: Baileys, Frais, cream and crushed shortcake biscuit. Warm cocktails 1x rum (good rum, like Woods), 1x blackcurrent, top up with warm water 1x prosectto, 1x apple vodka, top up with warm lemon mix and add a cinnamon stick (this is christmas in a glass). If you can get raisin syrup, add a dash of that. If you want a bit of fun, you can get watermelons to soak up vodka, which on a warm summer night go well with a barbecue
Less about the drink and more about the performance, the Portland tradition, Spanish coffee. Get one of them glass coffee mugs, with a stem that they use in bars. Sugar the rim. Add a shot of Bacardi 151. Light the rum. Tilt and twirl the glass around until the sugar has caramelized onto the rim. Add a shot of Triple Sec. Fuck around with it a little more for dramatic effect. Add a shot of Kahlua. Continue to screw with it, because it will still be burning at this point and will look cool. Now fill to the top with coffee. If you've done it right, the fire will go out just as you get to the top of the mug. Then top with whipped cream and nutmeg. For added theatricality you can sprinkle in a little nutmeg while it is burning to make for little sparkles, but that isn't essential to the drink.
Oh, already told TKO about this one once: Get yourself a pineapple and some Malibu coconut flavored rum. Lop the top off the pineapple and then core it out with one of them plastic corers--look a bit like a big corkscrew--being careful not to go too deep and compromise the ability to hold liquid. There will be a little juice in the thing already from the coring. Fill to the top with ice. Pour Malibu over the ice to nearly the top. Add a little pineapple juice. Insert straw. Enjoy.
