Britain's next top Missing Model (Now with pics, at 14th Doc's request) So, what did people think? Car crash TV, or horizon broadening eye candy? I thought it was really tastefully well done, I was quite surprised. But on the other hand, it made me feel more disabled. But that's just me projecting. Does anyone think they can see themselves "forgetting" about the contestants disabilities as the inevitable interpersonal drama takes over? What do people think about the Rebecca's elimination? Should she have been given points for having a visible disability? Hard choice that one, I still can't decide who I would have voted for.
The left picture is of Rebecca, who has a prosthetic leg. She was the first to be eliminated. The favourite so far is Kelly, on the right. Click for the shows website and more pictures
Some of its a cheat IMO. For instance, there's a deaf woman, which I think it a cheat. Modelling is a visual profession and deafness is obviously something that is non-visual.
Didn't watch it, won't watch it, but having seen interviews with various people that took part, I'm betting one of two things will happen 1) the girl in the wheelchair will win, and we'll never hear of her again. 2) the deaf girl will win, because let's face it, hearing is not a big deal on the catwalk, and deaf people don't look any different to hearing people.
That was the main argument being put to keep Rebecca in. Two of the judges were arguing that because the other one was deaf, she couldn't represent the disabled community, whilst the other two argued that it had to be on the merit of the shots themselves, and you couldn't be biased towards someone just because of their disability. I think the issue with deafness is that the agencies simply can't be bothered to have people to help with communication, and but also that it affects the inner balance, so there would be problems with catwalk for example. But otherwise I agree, I think they SHOULD be biased towards physical ailments, unless one of the deaf girls is outstanding, because although it shows everyday annoyances they face, it's not something that will really help change any attitude towards disability. Unfortunately, people listen to TV more than they listen to those people talking to them personally. So, it seems like it will be a bit pointless unless it's un-ignorable by the general public.
What is it with you people and disfigured models anyway? I wonder if Paul McCartney masturbates to this show.
If Paul McCartney wants to masturbate to disfigured models, he doesn't have to watch them on tv. He can probably just call a few over.
I remember years ago they had a "disfigured model" contest in Bosnia to bring attention to the dangers of land mines.
