Re: Woman sent to prison in Sudan for naming a Teddy Bear Muhammed

You're damned right I do. Religious "tenets" are only relevant and binding to those who choose to accept them as such, and it's high fucking time the devoutly religious types in the world started recognizing that fact.

Re: Woman sent to prison in Sudan for naming a Teddy Bear Muhammed

But naming people Mohammed seems to be perfectly okay.

I once took this class where the teacher showed some of Leonardo's works--including the famous 'Creation of Man' from the Sistine Chapel--and, when asked what he thought about it, the Muslem guy sitting in the front row said he could not (i.e., would not) see it. Idolatry and all that.

Probably has no problem watching representations of people on television, though. :garamet: Medievel nitwits.

You're awfully supportive of religious oppression for a guy who lives in a country where it never happens.

Re: Woman sent to prison in Sudan for naming a Teddy Bear Muhammed

I'll gladly say it to the face of any Muslim, but I'm not stupid enough to walk into a fucking savage theocracy and give the cowards an excuse to persecute me when I can avoid it.

That said, freedom of religion is an individual right that transcends all borders. No government can be used as a tool to impose religion and remain legitimate in my eyes.

I'm not supporting it. But that's the deal over there. You gotta follow THEIR rules when there. Same like they have to when here.

So it makes no sense to protest it. Its like a Muslim saying an honor killing is Ok so whys it a problem in America.

Right, you'll say it to a Muslim over here. But if you go over there its a whole nother deal.

Great, so you've got me to admit that I avoid backwards savage countries that [-]don't respect my rights[/-] respect even fewer of my rights than my own country. Congratulations.

Not according to the Muslim bloke on the BBC this morning who said the charge was ridiculous and the Sudanese should realise they were making Islam a laughing stock.
Even the Sudanese ambassador said he hoped the case would be thrown out.

there are no images of Mohammed. That muslim bloke is full of it. Maybe what he's saying is that they only prosecute when its a non-muslim breaking the rules. because no Muslim would ever do it.

What he was saying was that calling a teddy bear Muhammed is neither blasphemous nor offensive. The bear wasn't intended as an image of the prophet, it was just honoured with his name.
He did say it would be offensive if a pig was called Muhammed, but it still wouldn't be blasphemous.

Obviously these Sudanese twats have made an example out of this poor woman just because she is white, British and Christian.
Would they have been bothered if a native named his or her teddy Muhahammed? Like hell they would.
Fancy that, this lady goes to a backward shithole to teach the less fortunate kids of the world and this is how she's repaid. :jayzus:

This may not have been the most well-chosen battleground, but the "why" is that domineering religious assholes like that must be defied and resisted. Passing a law does not legitimize them.

Striking the heart of the enemy.

    Evil must be opposed.

And it's not PC to say it but it's a fact: Islam is Evil.

With Mecca a ruin, who knows but Islam might just implode.

Bollocks. It's no more evil than any other religion. It's used as an excuse for evil. But so has every religion ever founded been, with the possible exceptions of Buddhism and Jainism. And I'm not entirely sure about them. :garamet:
