Interesting. I'd like to see how it compares to the HK 416. I'd also like to see how the Q&A on the assembly line is. Im leery of Busys from some of the problems I've heard of, but MAGPULL is a great outfit. So maybe they will have some more control (since they are the license holder) and can demand some higher quality. In the end, I'll watch this one closely and if it the reports come back good, I'll get one, if for no other so see how a short stroke piston compares to DI.
If you like Magpul, here's another cool gadget. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D99NHb6B03s Oh, and I think we all know the answer to your last question.
Ever since I showed that video to my wife she has been saying she wants one. Gotta love a home health nurse that carries. As for the argument of DI Vs. Short-stroke, I know you are a fan of Short-stroke, but I'm curious, what do you base your opinion on? How much firearms experience with the two types do you have? I've only shot DI when it comes to ARs so I have no basis to make a comparison.
1. I also only have DI experience, and it's horrible IMO. 2. What I've read in the Army Times and other such publications. 3. SF ordered 500 H&K 416 Uppers.
And I've had 20 years of full-auto, semi-auto, full-length, and short length DI experience with 0 failures (of my personal weapons or weapons I was issued) under some questionable conditions. Between work and the personal collection, I've had a mix of 24 M16A1, M16A2, M4A2, AR15A2, AR15A3, and CAR15's over the last two decades and I've handled and fired close to a thousand. Opinions are like assholes, every body has one. No one is always right, including me. Not necessarily the last say. You know as well as I do that just 'cause it's good enough for Uncle Sam doesn't mean it's the best system out there. It's just what someone with buying power wanted.
End all be all? No. But when the Army Times article merely quotes the results of an Army Sandstorm Test. I tend to believe it. Especially since the Army then ignored the results and said they were keeping the M4. Doesn't sound like they rigged it to me. http://www.murdoconline.net/archives/005325.html Did you miss it was SF? They were told to go buy the best the could find. No procurement process. No rigged tests where millions or billions ride on the line. Just go pick the best and use. When this was done (2003 I think) they settled on the H&K416. And now the Army is taking them away. Page 8 of this weeks Army Times. Apparently SF has been talking too much about how great the H&K416 is and us poor grunts have been asking for it. Can't have that. Also no one in SF is allowed to talk about the decision!
Not quite. SF still gets to keep their toys. Its a test group (cant remember the name, but its something along the lines of the 'land warrior' program. Their mission is to test new weapons and tactics. They arent SF. Anyway DA pulled the 416s from them (according to DA) because the unit is supposed to be outfitting themselves with equipment that regular troops will be using. I still react like this ( ) to the decision, but to reiterate, SF units are keeping their 416s
