The whole thing seems to be about getting a shitload of press, but that's probably more to do with the people she is associated with - those Kardashians are vile fame whores. I have no idea what her actual motivations are. If it's something that's actually made her happier in life then all the power to her. No big deal.
Two thoughts: 1. That is one fugly woman (yes, I'm aware she was formerly a male). 2. No amount of photoshopping or airbrushing could have helped that Vanity Fair cover.
