I'm not necessarily opposed to flipping that switch, just pointing out there is more to consider. Yes, it can be flipped back, if you have the necessary admin powers. Might there be a circumstance in which somebody might need to contact him when no admin is available?

At any rate, the only people who would have a critical NEED to contact the account would be admins. If the function is being abused, it should be taken away. The odds of a situation arising where (a) it's critical to the board that someone be able to PM the NotDayton dual immediately, and (b) that person is not an admin, AND (c) no admin is available ... seem vanishingly small.

When Skrain Dukat started posting porn all over the board, THAT had to wait for a person with the appropriate powers to deal with it. What could make the need to send a PM to NotDayton more time-sensitive than that?

As I've already indicated, I'm inclined to agree. I am just trying to thoroughly vet this, as I have no interest in taking an action that will bring yet another round of complaints to the Helpdesk. We've already got this thread, I'm not interested in a thread complaining that we are taking away messages, so it needs to be air tight. Yours and @Captain X's input have been very helpful.

Tell me. IIRC El Chup has requested that the moderators provide the statistics or the information about the alleged "abuses of the Report Post" function and explain why the uses of Report Post have been considered an "abuse".

There are no statistics. I think Gul has made it perfectly clear that this is nothing but weak nonsense constructed to undermine posters that annoy them (and it seems even if the reason for said annoyance are legitimate it doesn't matter if you "complain too much"). This unbalanced, inverse favoritism is exactly the bullshit that caused people to leave Trekbbs and come here in the first place. They have become the very thing they sought to escape.

I still don't understand TWO big things:

1) Why are the moderators wanting to make changes when the board has been running fine anyway?

2) What is it the moderators hope to achieve? Who do they want to leave? How do they envision the board looking afterwards?

Well, I think I'll be gone after tonight and will likely stay away until this policy is rethought or certain individuals are gone. They say I complain too much, but they don't seem to grasp that every day I go to work I fight when I see bullshit or injustice. I contest bullshit when I see it, and I don't care who the players are. If you were making the rule up and Gul was on the receiving end, my fight would be exactly the same. That's what petty grudge holders don't get.

You know, Dayton. The thing is, as you quite rightly point out, if they were just transparent then chances are half of the "complaints" would be resolved a damn sight quicker and people would at least feel as if they were being treated with respect, even if they still disagreed.

Well maybe that's your problem. This isn't your workplace, this is a place for free form discussion. We don't have legalistic rules and precedent and such. You could enjoy the place for what it is, or you can harass and harangue the ownership because reasons. That's less fun. That's not what this place is supposed to be.

So you are alleging that I used the Report Post function if what? 15 times in a year? That is barely once a month.

And whether the report is rejected or not should not be an indicator of whether the report is legitimate or not.

It's not a made up list. While the system doesn't keep a permanent log, it does keep a temporary report rejection list. That is how I keep track.

So. How far back does the temporary report rejection list go?

Rubbish. Dayton and I have submitted exactly the same amount of reports, and one after the other like that? I know for a fact that's utter bullshit. It's clearly a fake list. I haven't reported more than about 3 posts a month, if that.....what's more you can't even tell me what the abuses were.

It varies. Unresolved reports are held on longer than resolved, which are dumped as soon as the report system refreshes. Rejected reports are kept longer, about a month. Those are the ones I mark down because those are the ones that are rejected due to not meeting the requirements for reportable action. In other words, if you report someone for calling you a jerk, but they did it in the Red Room, that report is rejected, as it isn't against the rules to call someone a jerk in the Red Room.
