https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/07/us-refugees-canada-border-trump-travel-ban Cue for rednecks to bray "Good riddance, yep!" A growing number of asylum seekers are braving freezing cold temperatures to walk into Canada from the US, driven by fears of what Donald Trump’s presidency will mean for refugees, advocates say. Last week, amid the chaos and uncertainty triggered by Trump’s travel ban, one agency dedicated to resettling refugees and immigrants opened an unprecedented 10 refugee claims in one day. Eight of the claimants had walked into Canada in order to avoid detection by border officials. On Tuesday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said another 22 people had walked across the border and into Canada over the weekend; 19 of them on Saturday and three on Sunday. “They’re not crossing at the actual point where there’s an immigration and customs offices,” said Rita Chahal of the Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council. “They’re walking through prairie fields with lots and lots of deep snow. In Europe we’re seeing people in boats; now just imagine a prairie flatland and snow for miles and miles.” (...)
We'd love to have you here but please use the appropriate channels. This isn't fucking America for crying out loud.
Gosh, Lube, I knew your attention span was uhh.. challenged, so I can understand why you didn't actually take time to read the article. The better to stay an ignorant rube, as in Lube the Rube. I'd like to see you swimming for your life in an Appropriate Channel.
Tuckered out as I am from dualling on this board, I just want to point out that your illiteracy ain't my problem.
We will cut off welfare and make those people actually get jobs. You know, like we used to do. Besides, you idiots are the only ones who pretend deporting illegal aliens would some how mean there would be no legal immigrants (who are infinitely superior to law breaking criminal scum).
Not going to happen too soon considering he keeps coming to floriduh. The local government wants reimbursement for the costs of security while the asshole stays here. It seems that trump's existence someplace means they lose money.
I normally think of using a sledge when my stupid pad do codes to use completely different words than I want.
Besides Azure and $corp, has anyone else from Canuckforge lived on the prairies in winter? I hitched and hopped along the TC and Yellowhead a few times, and it was not pleasant.
Or the corner of Portage & Main, the very centre of the country and proverbial coldest place (Winnipeg) in urban Canada. My stepfather spent the winter of 1938 in Fort McPherson, near the MacKenzie Delta. He said when you peed you had to back up while doing it. So much for Cold Canada lore. The Canadian prairies are cold (continental climate) and flat (facilitating a cutting wind). And just like all those unfortunate buggers climbing into boats in Libya, these guys can't possibly really know what they're letting themselves in for.
I lived in Calgary (not quite the prairies per se) for about two years. Being a Torontonian, I was puzzled why most of the parking lots had electrical outlets. Then winter came... and I understand that if you didn't plug in your car, you weren't driving home.
when were you out there? I had a few stops in Calgary between 88-92... usually stuck around for a few months at a time and worked door at the Warehouse or Studio A Gogo.
