It's not a soap opera. What it does is prove how wrong they all were in the end. It's not the technology that causes the cycle to repeat. It's the mistakes humans make--
thought it was clever as hell. Didn't any of you ever wonder how a bunch of fucking chrome toaster suddenly sprouted a monotheistic faith in a polytheistic society teetering on the edge of atheism? Now we know. Ellen said the centurions gave them the faith in the one true God. Now we know where they got it. It's a tragic story.

Zoe seems to have a child like view of morality along with that Sister at that one academy. I think labour unions in caprica society seem to have more of a right to use violence then that one true god movement.

Of course she has a child like view. She's still a child. Teenagers always think they're right and that they know it all. Had she lived she might have changed her views,
Can a replicated consciousness mature like a real person? Experience life like a real person. Are you alive?

I don't think so. It can only get angrier and angrier because it has no choice or freedom. Hmmmm.....gosh that could lead to all sorts of unfortunate events. ;)

Anyone else think that Ron Moore is stretching the idea of a reboot too far?

I liked the original BG where the Cylons were at least ALIEN robots (alien cyborgs in the original concept and the novels by the way).

    Not really.

Bear in mind that I haven't seen Caprica yet, but I like the idea of showing how the colonies created their Cylons, as long as it's done well.

I only really started liking it during the last 20 minutes or so. Everything else up until that point was kinda meh. The human sacrifice surprised the fuck out of me at the beginning because I thought it was actually happening on Caprica and not in virtual reality.

I always thought one of the most ridiculous aspects of the nuBG was the idea that the Humans in the colonies even HAD THE ABILITY to build the Cylons in the first place.

What we saw in nuBG was a society of 12 planets that apparently (aside from stardrive) had technology that wasn't much beyond mid 21st century Earth.

We're supposed to believe they built robots that quickly mutated into a force capable of wiping them out in just a matter of years?

That sounds about like the United States being conquered by Predator drones.

Robots rose up against humans in Terminator, and they didn't even have FTL space travel.

I don't know how you can say people in the BSG universe were at the same level of technology as us, except for FTL. They also had artificial gravity, anti-gravity within an atmosphere, the ability to process algae into food, and now it seems they had some sort of VR/hologram technology as well as paper thing touchscreen computers.

I assume you're more pissed at the fact that they didn't have lasers, though.

I, too, literaly fell asleep over this in my first attempt to watch it. Eventually, I got through it, and because of BSG's awesomeness and some excellent ideas in this I will try it again when the first episodes come through, ut they desperatelly have to improve their stroytelling.

I still don't quite understand what the colonies' military is expecting to fight. They're already one political structure with one President and one army, right? Is the fleet there exclusively to quell uprisings?

From what I gathered, Caprica has a parliamentary system with a prime minister and various other ministries. It seems that over the course of 58 years, a presidential system emerges. The fleet probably emerges, or at least becomes stronger, as a result of the presidential system and threat from Cylons.

Edit: the BSG wiki says the Colonies became a federal republic following the signing of the Articles of Colonialization 52 years before the fall, and as a result of the Cylon uprising. http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Articles_of_Colonization

Human technology today can process algae into food.

And the paper thin touchscreen computers are what 10-20 years away from what I've read.

    As for Terminator.

Three quarters of all humans were killed by Skynet in the nuclear war it started and the remainder apparently reduced to near savagery so having primitive robotics able to take on the remainder is no great feat.

The Colonies apparently were comprised of 12 planets and 50 billion people all basically untouched when the Cylons rose up.

Caprica is also having a lot of labor riots. I think if i am not mistaken the revolt on Tauron was a labor revolt. Tauron seems to be a puppet state or colony like india or egypt of Caprica's.

You're forgetting the part where the Cylons nuked more than 3/4 of humanity. Furthermore, there's no indication that the Colonies even had the technology for nuclear warheads at the time, it could have indeed been developed towards the end of the Cylon War. Consider our own history: nukes weren't developed until the biggest war the planet has ever seen. What's the biggest war the Colonies even experienced before then? Minor skirmishes on other planets?

Yeah, baba. Zoe A will violate Lacy with her cold metal fingers. That'll be lesbian heaven. Almost as orgasmic as a visit to the gynecologist who can't be bothered to warm the speculum. Hey, those pap smears really get a girl off.

The Cylons launched nuclear attacks on the colonies in the FIRST war 40 years before the nuBG series?

    I wasn't aware of that.

No, but they did eventually nuke them, so what if it took 40+ years?

Reviving this, because I just saw the pilot.

It's a variation on Frankenstein. And it seems there are at least 11 episodes following.

    Has anyone's opinion changed?

I chose to watch Spartacus on Starz instead, foregoing two hours of SyFy commercials.

I didn't really like it or dislike it. What I did like was learning how the Cylons got their start. I'll give it a shot but I'm not overly optimistic about it.

I've had a copy of the extended version for several months. :pirate:

I think it's an interesting concept. I liked the pilot. As for the series, it depends on what they do with it.

I'm gonna vote for LOTS of screen time devoted to developing the Cylon prototype, and there's no reason why this can't lead into the first Cylon war if they're given enough episodes.
