The LA Times has sources saying that the decision came directly from Murdoch.

It sounds like although Murdoch didn't like Carlson's January 6 lies (which, incidentally, included making staffers shop around for somebody who would be willing to claim that the trials were taking a long time because Biden had to cover up for his FBI moles), the biggest factor in his firing may have been former producer Abby Grossberg's lawsuit against the network.

In her lawsuit, Grossberg describes the behind-the-scenes environment of Carlson's show as basically a frat house filled with raging misogynists. On her first full day, she arrived to find giant photoshopped pictures of Nancy Pelosi in a revealing bikini taped all over her work area. The next day, somebody asked if her former boss, Maria Bartiromo, was fucking Kevin McCarthy. (Previously, various male executives had called Bartiromo "hysterical" and "menopausal" and said that only a man could possibly handle being her executive producer.) Two male producers frequently leered that a female booker on Grossberg's team should use her sex appeal to help the show, adding that she should sleep with Elon Musk to get him to do an interview and that she could become his next wife. Before they hosted a Republican gubernatorial candidate for an interview, there was a lively newsroom debate over whether she or her female opponent was hotter, part of what sounds like it was a never-ending parade of comments about women's bodies.

Oh, and there was a bunch of antisemitism too. Including a producer loudly commenting, every time a Jewish employee bought lunch from a Jewish bakery, that he had gone to "the Jew bakery" to "see his people." And also some joke about how he thought it was illegal for Jews to have tattoos.

Republicans, these are your thought leaders.

How did I miss this? More from Tucker, in old news that I somehow never saw until I aw it referenced in Grossberg's lawsuit:

"Women hate you when they do you wrong and you put up with it. Because they hate weakness. They're like dogs that way. They can smell it on you, and they have contempt for it; they'll bite you ... I mean, I love women, but they're extremely primitive, they're basic, they're not that hard to understand. And one of the things they hate more than anything is weakness in a man."

Also some stuff about defending Warren Jeffs (the rapey FLDS leader) and responding to a shock jock's jokes about underage girls sexually experimenting with each other at boarding school with "If it weren't my daughter I would love that scenario."

Though in fairness, the "if it weren't my daughter" part makes him way less sleazy than many other Republicans.

    Edit: Corrected LDS to FLDS

That makes me think of one of the last scenes in A Face in the Crowd (which I watch nearly ever time TCM runs it because it was such a prescient film) where Lonesome Rhodes has been brought low by a hot mic moment where he insults and demeans his viewers without realizing they can hear him.

Lonesome Rhodes: Listen, I'm not through yet. You know what's gonna to happen to me?

Mel Miller: Suppose I tell you exactly what's gonna happen to you. You're gonna be back in television. Only it won't be quite the same as it was before. There'll be a reasonable cooling-off period and then somebody will say: "Why don't we try him again in a inexpensive format. People's memories aren't too long." And you know, in a way, he'll be right. Some of the people will forget, and some of them won't. Oh, you'll have a show. Maybe not the best hour or, you know, top 10. Maybe not even in the top 35. But you'll have a show. It just won't be quite the same as it was before. Then a couple of new fellas will come along. And pretty soon, a lot of your fans will be flocking around them. And then one day, somebody'll ask: "Whatever happened to, a, whatshisname? You know, the one who was so big. The number-one fella a couple of years ago. He was famous. How can we forget a name like that? Oh by the way, have you seen, a, Barry Mills? I think he's the greatest thing since Will Rogers."

I do not know if that is anti-semitism, or knowing about jews. I know a lot of jews and they have traditional specific things they eat for holidays, not to mention kosher restrictions. It is easier to get the stuff going to a jewish run bakery or deli. Jewish Delis are awesome in that you can get a ethnic taste of their traditional foods even if you are not a jew. Of course, the older jews at the deli were often personable hubs of the jewish community. It was the same with italian delis in NY. Yes, I know it is faux and fucker carlson so it is probably anti-semetic, but recognizing that jews go to see their people for their foods is something a lot of jews do. You cannot get quality jewish food fromk a fucking supermarket or in a package. Even fucking bagels are not the same if you get them from the jews. That is respect and not anti-semetic.

Also, it is against jewish law to desecrate your body because it is your temple. A jew with a tattoo would be seen as not adhering to jewish religious law. I have heard jewish parents tell their kids they won't be a jew anymore if they get a tattoo so that is a thing. That is not anti-semetic, that is part of their faith and something a jewish person needs to consider if they want to get a tattoo.

Thinking he tries to do his own "new media" empire in the mold of Infowars or what Beck is doing. Be the boss of the whole thing instead of someplace he might get fired the 4th time.
Second choice, Newsmax basically offers him half the company and a blank check to do anything he wants (kind of a Maddow style deal in terms of content)

There might also be an element related to their negotiations this year on carriage fees, as an effort to show they are a reasonable "normal" broadcaster and not a dumpster fire headed for the cliff.

    Anyway, potential replacement?

My early $$$ is on Tulsi being on the VERY short list. None of those half-assed stooges like Kileade or Watters has the juice for that slot.

There's also a chance the go out and hire some "influencer" that's willing to do Carlson's bit turned up to 11. Crowder, for example. But my dream is they think they can make benie guy a thing on TV, that would be a riot.
