If ever an entertainer's death deserved to be left out of political discussions, this would be the time.

His body of work warrants the respect IMO.

What kills me is the people on that site and others like this one: http://www.metafilter.com/70562/Charlton-Heston-dead-at-84 are more than happy to ignore the other work he did simply because of his firearm stance. Civil Rights was great, but he shilled for guns so he's a worthless dick.

Well I just waded through the whole damn page, and have to say that there are quite a few really fucked up people out there.

However thankfully the vast majority where wishing him well, and more were arguing for him and his Progressive credentials than were dancing on his grave.

I wonder what the reaction would be at freerepublic when Jane Fonda dies?

Everyone knows that 'asshole' isn't inherent to any political affiliation. People try to score cheap "points" in every discussion. Even in the memorial thread here, we had that.

Charleston Heston was indeed a true breaker of the color barrier when it came to civil rights. :techman:

DU is oh so similar to some of the pricks and assholes that are shitting on Heston's memory over that place that helped to spawn the birth of this bbs.

It is sickening to see how fucking petty people are. The main point of contention of course if Heston's support of a particular Constitutional right.

Unfortunately you have those who lean to the extreme left that are so blinded by their hatred of those who lean to the right of their political ideologies that they almost can't help themselves.

It's undeniable that some people in any part of the political spectrum are jerks.

No one has denied the truth of what Anc said: far more people are showing respect to Heston even in what's supposed to be moonbat central than are disrespecting him.

I'd also reiterate that even the most negative comments about Heston are likely to look like compliments when certain liberals (either Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Barney Frank, Ted Kennedy, etc.) die. And those comments are more likely to come from mainstream conservative pundits like Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, etc. who define and shape conservative thought than the classless and incorrect comments about Heston are to come from mainstream liberal pundits.

I'll do as I please. The guy's dead and I'm not going to disrupt any thread you people want to have simply to commiserate on his passing.

But when there's a political thread condemning the left for their attitude and/or lionising his political stances, you shouldn't expect to go unchallenged.
All I said is that I didn't like him - whereas we can see a much more extreme reaction when a hate-figure of the right meets his end.

That you can even make such an analogy - a traitorous criminal compared to an advocate of an "unpopular" position - is outrageous and disgusting. Regardless of your point, poor taste in memorial threads, the example you selected is feeble and grossly misplaced.

It shows that opinions and thoughts don't need a particularly firm footing in the underlying facts or circumstances.

Of course you'll do as you please.

And you'll look like a classless shithead...as would anyone of any political stripe who can't bother to keep the bile at bay for at least a small period of time out of decency if for no other reason.

 I'll wait for the 'decency' of the right when Michael Moore succumbs to his inevitable heart attack. While I don't think Jane Fonda ever betrayed her country, I can understand why some people feel differently. Mikey-boy, though, is a different matter: an undoubted patriot who just happens to have a particular agenda he isn't too careful about pushing... :chris:

I, for one, don't give a crap what any lefty has to say when a "right-winger" passes on. I know that I am going to dance for joy publicly when an evil person, a liar like Michael Moore, finally bites the dust.

Seriously, though, when you think about how many people are living a lot longer, it's not as bad as it could be. I mean, of my grandparents, one died in his late 70s, the other three in their very late 80s, and only one suffered with Alzheimer's.

Totally anecdotal, but most people I know don't seem to know more than one person affected.

Crossword puzzles and Sudokos. Keep the mind active, it seems to be the best way of delaying any problems. And don't cook in aluminium pans.

I've known five. Two were sisters of my grandmother. :(

But, I still have all four grandparents (all in their mid-70's) and one great grandmother (96) for the time being. It scares me though. I've gone my whole life without losing someone very close to me to death.

I've been through a lot of scary shit in my life, but the absolute most horrified I've ever been was when I got the call from mom that they were on their way to the hospital, dad was having a heart attack. The world just stopped turning for me.

I don't know how I'll deal when I start getting worse phone calls. :(

I think comparing Heston to 'any' of those is pretty ridiculous.

And besides, if Ten Kennedy died....I'd go piss on his grave. :spaceturk:
