in the comics (and briefly onscreen) that Deadpool was inspired by Spidy's suit in making his own.

This. Spider-Man getting teched up by Tony was a huge plot point in the Civil War comics. Of course, like almost everything else CW did with Spider-Man, it makes a lot more sense as a change to a well-established character as opposed to that character's first introduction.

Someone needs to demand Peter Parker answer this question:

"Since you're Spiderman where the FUCK were you the day a alien invasion force showed up in New York City?"

    Looks good!

So far I've enjoyed all the Marvel movies except Iron Man 3.

But I think this should have just been labeled as an Avengers movie. Or maybe just call it Marvel: Civil War.

Who isn't in this movie? Just Thor and Hulk? I wonder if Nick Fury will be involved.

I'm probably more excited for this than I am for Batman/Superman.

I feel like they've already done a good job exploring Batman and Superman in the various animated shows and animated movies. I'm not sure if live action will live up to my expectations.

It's too bad one of the biggest driving factions of the Civil War can't even be brought in on-screen because of who controls the movie rights: The X-Men.

if they had done the Inhumans first they could have simply substituted them. Or if they'd been willing to integrate what Agents of Shield is doing

I'm kind of glad the X-Men are a separate franchise. I think that's just too many characters to incorporate.

Besides, this gives Marvel a chance to explore some less popular non mutant characters like Ant Man, Black Panther, etc.

In my personal canon, the Deadpool Easter eggs cross it over anyway. ;)

James Gunn has seen "Civil War", and says it's the best Marvel movie ever, and now he says Tom Holland is the best Spiderman.

This thread has become way too geeky, even for me.

I'm going to watch some Downton Abbey and gouge my eyes out. :whacko:

Saw it. Enjoyed it. Nothing unexpected, though. If I was Chris Evens I'd have complained loudly as to how much he has to share the movie with all the others. I mean, it's really not a CA movie but an ensemble one. Somebody on the 'net will certainly measure it but I'd bet good money that Iron Man gets at least the same amount of screen time as Cap does.

    Two things I noticed:

    1. We have moved beyond tenth-of-a-second-cuts into the area of action shots that must be way shorter. I really like fast cuts but seeing this in 3D can make the toughest stomach turn. Also, it just emphasizes the problem of lower frame rates and lower resolution in 3D. Meaning, the fastest scenes look choppy and blurry while they're smooth when you take off the 3D glasses. Stop that madness already. CA: CW doesn't have a single scene that justifies 3D. Even the ROGUE ONE Trailer before it used the technology to make a few shots better. CW didn't. Just. Leave. It. Be. Or at least give us more than 2/10ths of a second of Spidey doing his Spidey thing. Because, like, now that's something we like to see in 3D.

    2. Probably due to the extremely high speed, there is some geographical confusion. While I know they didn't actually shoot the Vienna scenes in Vienna, they didn't even try to actually make the place look like Vienna's UN complex. The real thing has such distinctive architecture that even non-Austrians will notice (they show it in an aerial shot beforehand just to make sure of it). Then there is Bucharest. The screenplay demands extended scenes in Germany so German police starts kicking in doors and grabbing people in Romania? Nope, I don't think so. And finally, Berlin. Guys, I know. Leipzig Airport probably paid a lot of money to have its logo flashed on the screen non-stop for 15 minutes. It's still a 2 hour drive there from Berlin. How and why did they get there? Berlin has two and a half international airports.

Anyway, like all those Marvel movies it's highly entertaining. I'd rate it slightly below WS which puts it very high on my list of Marvel movies. However... it's also becoming a little stale. By now you know exactly what you're getting when you buy a ticket. They desperately need to break the mold more often (see: DEADPOOL, GotG). Also, there is some inconsistency when it comes to the characters. I don't know if CW was a good move at this point. Since Marvel stayed away from an entirely happy ending, the next AVENGERS installment will probably spend its first part getting them all back together yet again. Cue Nick Fury speech, yadda, even more characters, bleh. I'd have hoped for a good sendoff in INFINITY WAR but instead I'm afraid it will be a very confused mess with three dozen characters from the mainline movies, second-tier movies, Spidey and the various TV shows. I can also see a few X-Men in there since the lines between the franchises are disappearing anyway.

Maybe they'll use the remaining Phase 3 movies to clean up a little. But probably not since even more new characters are being introduced. There are ten (!!!) more movies and at least three new Netflix series coming until 2019 while the others go on, so... yea. We're gonna need a cheat sheet. Big one.

Just got home. I'm living in a small city now where watching these movies in English means midnight tickets. But it was absolutely worth it. This might be the best Marvel movie yet in my book -- definitely top three. Elegant, smart, and for once, I couldn't predict where the plot was going. Loved it.

Several fridge moments so far, all of which turn out to add depth when I consider them, rather than remain plotholes.

Saw it. Terrific. Airport battle is superhero movie awesomeness (with several great elements not even hinted at in the trailer). Loved the take on Spider-man (and hot Aunt May). Liked the twist and revelation late in the movie. Black Panther gets a great intro (andd has a bigger role than I expected).

Not as tight as Winter Soldier, but with enough action to challenge the Avengers films. 8/10.

It really felt like a sequel to Winter Soldier and it really was a Captain America film. My favorite super hero is Superman and my favorite Marvel character is Spidey, but in the MCU, Cap. is my favorite. Each movie has been better than the last, he and Superman share a lot of the same character traits, he seems to value liberty and not trust certain aspects of the government, his movies have been the most consistent and he's a great leader of the Avengers. Also, the Russo brothers have the best take on Black Widow and she's consistently had Cap's back. I don't feel this movie was over stuffed and RDJ's presence didn't overshadow Cap. While I did like Batman v. Superman, I do think this movie dealt with the whole politics a lot better.

I really wish I'd seen this movie before I read the comics. I imagine seeing Winter Soldier would have helped a bunch as well (really not sure why I haven't, but I need to now, clearly), but I'm pretty sure reading the comics last year only set me up for disappointment. Not that they could have made a single-movie adaptation of all 106 issues of the Marvel Civil War, there are at least 3, maybe 4 movies worth of material there, and the universe isn't at the same point, so some characters are missing/different (to say nothing of the rights issues that'd have to be resolved).

Saw it last night! Great movie. I'd definitely put it above Age of Ultron. It somehow managed to handle the ensemble better, probably because they kept Captain America as the center of the movie.

I'll never get used to a hot Aunt May though! Lol.

Just seems so wrong, especially considering how decrepit she used to look in most of the Spidey comics from the 60s to the 90s (don't read comics anymore so not sure what she looks like now, or if she is even still alive?)

Black Panther was cool. I think they should bump up his movie. Spider-Man was cool. Ant-Man was cool. I think Marvel has done a great job of constantly adding new characters into the mix while still keeping around the mainstays. Looking forward to Doctor Strange!
