so essentially "I don't like her so any bullshit someone tells me about her I am therefore willing to believe is gospel truth" Down that road lies Pizzagate.
it's too late to look up the relevant law but I'm 90+% certain that there is, in fact, law against using foreign resources in your campaign. it's part of the whole cloud of complaints Republicans have made against Clinton in fact.
If this was an SNL sketch we'd all shake our heads at the exaggeration. By now, even the GOP should be screaming for impeachment. I mean... what do we have this week? Obstruction of justice, coercion (the tweet threat), accusing an ex-employee of a future crime (same threat), abuse of power (in spirit at least), coverups and probably soon more nepotism since hey, why not make Ivanka or Jared director of the FBI too. They can do anything and at the same time. And that's just the surface. I don't want to know what's going on behind closed doors there. If this was some African backwater we'd be pointing fingers and laugh. Unfortunately it's dangerous when it happens in Washington.
@Zombie, how about instead of arguing with @Tuckerfan about stupid shit that has nothing to do with the topic, why don't you respond to @Man Afraid of his Shoes's post #329?
Already done. If you'd actually pay attention instead of being a stupid fool you'd have seen my stance on the topic.
This, y'all, it's spot on. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/05/a-special-prosecutor-is-not-the-answer/526662/ More at the link
The only thing that explains the "tapes" tweet is that Trump really believed a tape of Comey refusing to swear personal/political loyalty would make Comey look bad. Along the same lines, he dishonestly equated loyalty to himself with loyalty to the United States. L'état, c'est Trump.
The whole Trump presidency has been a dumpster fire so far. But as long as Republicans in Congress are sticking with him this is all pointless and nothing will happen to Trump. Democrats would be better of focusing on actual issues rather than chasing after every ethical violation and lie by the administration. His supporters don't care. What they do care about is the state of their health care and whether he will actually get people back to work. My guess is that he has no interest in and no idea how to do either so this is the opportunity Democrats need to seize. His approval ratings are tanking, not they were particularly good to begin with. Eventually Republicans will have to decide if they are going to break ranks or go down with him. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ Keep an eye on that. If it starts to dip even further, get ready to get out the popcorn.
The places with higher unemployment voted Republican, but they were Republican before... and still had high unemployment.
Was Bush that far from the norm, in all honesty? I'm seriously asking, because as a teen I hated the guy's guts my own reflections from that time are far from biased. I mean, the Iraq War was a bust, but at least he wasn't going after every person who personally insulted him or threatening to use his power to destroy other Americans.
Bush Jr sank only after well into his 2nd term if I recall correctly. And Bush, for all his faults, did not alienate people the way Trump does. He was even an amiable fellow and seemed pretty good natured. Republicans already have a very low tolerance for Trump. They barely could tolerate him during the campaign and if they think their jobs are on the line and he is no longer worth supporting they will drop him like a rock. He is not the type of guy that inspires any sort of loyalty. They are just afraid of his base of supporters. If they abandon him, the congressmen will follow. They would most likely rather have Pence anyway. More predictable and more aligned with their values.
No, Jr was nothing compared to Trump. I actually miss some of W's press conferences. A lot of times it was BS, but at least he had some decent jokes. Also, he was good at handling crisis'. Trump is just nuts. ETA: the aftermath of 9/11 was his best moment. I mean 9/12.
I always felt that despite his faults, W at least cared about the public in general, even if it was misguided.
Neither Obama or Bush would have ever dreamed of having the FBI director come over for dinner to pledge his personal loyalty.
It really depends upon what you mean. Every President has their goofball moments: Carter got attacked by a killer rabbit, Reagan made his joke about bombing Russia, HW checked his watch during a debate, Clinton ran into somebody while he was jogging or something, W choked on a pretzel, and Obama gave the Brit Prime Minister a bunch of DVDs. Bush, however, was a bit farther out, in some ways, though. For example, I can't recall any President prior to W picking so many unqualified people for certain positions. There was his one Supreme Court nominee who couldn't be bothered to fill out the paperwork Congress requested, there was Paul Bremer who fucked up post-invasion Iraq, and a few others. Now, of course, we've got Trump, who's basically taken 8 years worth of Presidential scandals and compressed them into 16 weeks, in addition to picking people in his Administration who have no business being around sharp objects, let alone positions of power.
I largely agree though I would note that Trump's supporters are largely in la-la land and are convinced anything not in their echo chamber is some how "fake news" or not true. Republicans have spent decades getting these people into a propaganda bubble and disbelieving anything not spoon fed to them so I hardly think they will suddenly come to their senses. They live in a fact free alternative reality.
It's also possible that Trump's mind is so incoherent that he just randomly lashed out with something that he thought sounded good, with no particular basis in anything real...
