that's a lot of maybes and presumptions

to save time, i just went back in the thread...

she had a regular key to get into her apartment that obviously didn't fit his door.
he most likely heard her trying to get in, answered the door, and she shot him.
logically, the moment she heard someone inside she drew her gun in preparation for a confrontation.

I am talking about the gate code. Obviously the door would have it's own specific key. Many complexes have a gate for the parking lot that also surrounds foot entrances.

I realize why she shot the dude, but it was extremely premature to be drawing your gun for a confrontation. I would assume he heard her key in the door and opened it giving her a surprise, but your key not fitting your door lock should be a sign something is up, and not it being criminal activity. I could see if the door was damaged or busted open then you draw your gun, but if your key is not working in your door are you going to shoot it open? That would violate many laws about discharging a firearm within a town or near a residence.

She showed some very poor decision making skills.

Why bother? The bitch is gonna be acquitted and walk anyway.

I place better odds on Felicity Huffman actually spending those 14 days in jail or prison than this cop serving any time.

Why do you think she'll get off? Lots of cops get sent to prison for crimes against civilians.

manslaughter sounds about right. Nothing premeditated, but her negligence had deadly consequences.

It is not self defense because only white male gun owners are allowed to shoot unarmed black men because they are scary.

Wanna put $5 on it, like that one song? :ramen:

Kidding aside, I want to believe you're right but cases like Philando Castile that was entire indefensible to the point that Paladin of all people was pissed at the verdict have eradicated any faith I have in the justice system. :sigh:

Except for the fact that other cops have been convicted after the Castile incident.

She really doesn't have much of a defense here.

I have to agree that the justice system has failed on many of these cases to put the proper penalties for police misuse of firearms. This has created a lax safety environment where the police resort to their guns too soon. That is not just problematic for brown people either. Their problem is multiplies by the prejudice present in sociey, but when police resort to deadly force right away because they feel they will be excused for a mistake they endanger lives rather than save them.

I am sorry to the poolice officers out there, but yes you do assume risk for taking the job. You should be compensated better and looked after better for the consequences of that risk and responsibility, but you do assume that risk by taking the job. If that is something you do not want to or cannot deal with then do a different job.

To also respond to @shootER 's comment I think that is a better trend to hold police misuse of firearms accountable. Perhaps there should be consideration in sentencing for the conditions that surrounded the crimes. That is where variable punishments should come into play. However, there does need to be a public view that police are held responsible for their actions to allow for society to have more faith and trust in the police department. That should come with a high bar for the use of deadly force.

Dallas has actually been taking a lot of steps in recent years to correct themselves and improve relations with the public. I distinctly remember that because ai saw a lot of stories come out after that cop shooting that happened a couple years ago.

They're the one major PD in America who deserved cop massacre the least, IMO.
    You're a copsucker. Be proud.

oh great! First the haters said you couldn't text and drive. :brood: Now you can't text and engage in an armed confrontation? :brood: Just shred the constitution while we're at it! :( However, if you text while being involved in armed "road rage" will one of the three cancel something out and make it okay?
ooh I can't wait to try this out when I get off work today!

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/texas-judge-disbelief-da-allegedly-231104970.html

So the prosecutor has pissed off the judge by holding a press conference about the case despite a gag order. Pissed is not quite the word one could have after seeing the video. The judge has to compose herself as she hears about the interview despite the gag order being from january of this year.

This seems like it might be a deliberate attempt to violate the defendant's rights to create a mistrial. It is almost as if the DA is sacrificing themself to keep the cop out of jail by throwing the trial.

    He's not sacrificing himself.

He's just a self serving idiot of a politician whose more concerned with being reelected than actual justice being done. So he fucked up because he's a moron.

Plus the DA is African American. He'd be toast if he tried to deliberately sink his own office's case against the former cop.

I guess that sounds like it could be the case. It was a huge fuck up though, and I hope it comes up in his re-election. This is not a game for anyone to "win." It is a horrible tragedy that needs to be handled correctly.

maybe "castle doctrine" actually means defending any castle, not just your own! She was defending the guy's castle from himself ! Now it's all starting to make sense....to the judge anyway. Side note could it be (in some cases anyway) that judges are in that position because they couldn't cut it as a lawyer?
I'm seriously asking, I don't know how status and rank works in the legal world. All I know is lawyers with the catchiest commercials get the most business.
