I don't have access to any schools curricula, and have never claimed otherwise. There are things I would tolerate as a hypothetical parent, and things I would not.

Nope. I look at one car, evaluate what's wrong with it, fix the problem and advise on how not to repeat it. "Patterns" are for people seeking to undermine the concept of individual merit.

What exactly do you think a pattern is dude and how are determining the cause of issues without reference to other things you've observed?

So let's see if I've got this straight: UA doesn't know what CRT is but the thought of it being taught throws him into an apoplectic rage. Is that right?
Also if UA doesn't know what it is how does he know it's being taught?

Same here. For instance, as a hypothetical parent, I would be against schools teaching that all Jeep drivers should be slaughtered and made into sausages.

However, without any reason to believe that schools are actually doing that, I'm not gonna waste a whole lot of time getting outraged about it.

So what is it about this particular nebulous hypothetical that has you all worked up into a lather?

I'm not sure where the randomness is, but I'll try to simplify it even further.

how do you think the relocation of the Seminole people should be presented? let's say at a grade 10 level.

or you can insert any other instance of relocating First Nations from their traditional territories.

do you teach it as an agreement between equals or do you get into the more genocidal/death march truths of historical record?

Which Seminoles? The ones that stayed in Florida never signed any treaty with the U.S. Thus the statue of a Seminole warrior on the campus of Florida State carrying a flaming spear with the legend "Unconquered". I don't know for sure, but I have gotten the impression that one of the reasons the Florida Seminoles are willing to tell Russell Means and other American Indian activists who don't like them allowing FSU to use Seminoles as their nickname to piss off is that they consider themselves slightly above the "losers" who signed treaties and were forced onto the Trail of Tears. The Oklahoma Seminoles have also signed off on the FSU association, but I get the feeling (again) that it's more like "whatever." :clyde:

First of all, I appreciate you taking the time to make some well thought out comments on my post. I don't think we're as far apart on this issue as we may have previously thought.

Generally speaking, it's not a great idea to ban certain subjects in education. That's a fairly authoritarian point of view to ban subjects or fields of study you disagree with (other than something dangerous like Bombmaking 101). I doubt you actually take that position. Regardless, no one is objecting to banning CRT at the K-12 level (nor is anyone advocating we teach actual CRT at that level). What people are objecting to is banning what the right-wing propaganda machine has convinced people is CRT, which notably includes some very legitimate fields of study such as the history of race relations, slavery, genocide, etc. As you noted, you agree those topics shouldn't be banned, and yet people are advocating for their ban.

I had a catty response to this, but all I'll say is that my understanding of what you think it is was based on what you have posted here.

Which teachers are using that line? I don't understand what argument you are even making here.

It's attributed to you by virtue of what you have posted here about this subject. You have displayed incredible levels of ignorance about the subject, and today you have finally admitted to being ignorant about the subject. Doesn't it make more sense to educate yourself about the subject, rather than get emotionally worked up by someone else telling you how you should feel?

That's great, but a lot of people seeking to ban what they think is CRT are also seeking to ban those subjects. Sorry if I misunderstood you, but the common thread from a lot of people who don't understand CRT is to ban those types of subjects, and you have demonstrated and admitted that you don't fully understand CRT. So I hope you can understand where I am coming from.

I read a book on feminist philosophy last year. Despite having an advanced degree and several college philosophy courses under my belt, it was really hard for me to understand. I'm pretty sure I only got the broad strokes, and would have to refresh my memory to describe them today.

I just mention this to have some humility and admit that there are some topics that can't be easily expressed to or by people who aren't working deeply within a particular field. If I were to summarize the book I read, I would probably a) piss off some men because I misunderstand something, and b) annoy some philosophers because I missed the nuance.

I don't understand theoretical physics, it must be a murky conspiracy to trick me.

What is so hilarious to me is that that asshole who created the moral panic about Critical Race Theory actually straight up stated it was a sham.

The entire plan, FROM THE BEGINNING, was to scare and confuse rubes like FF and UA into panic about ‘CRT’ and using that panic to ban any and everything that makes conservatives uncomfortable. A secondary objective is further attacking public education in general.

And as this thread shows Conservatives rarely lose when betting on the gullibility of their base.

It doesn’t work that way. You see, I *do* know what CRT is, and therefore, know it is not taught in K-12.
You do not know what CRT is, therefore, succumb to propaganda telling you just enough to think you know what it is and are then dumb enough to think it is taught in K-12.
