So....it's easier on a man's concious to take the life of hundreds of innocents....or even one enemy soldier....than it is to make a man suffer for 30 seconds but not take his life?

Strange little worldview you got there.
it depends on the situation but you can KNOW a man is party to the crime you are trying to prevent.

It IS possible - you simply deny the possibility because it makes the world a little less black and white than you want it to be.

And you should know as well as I, once someone has blinded himself to an unpleseant reality, it's pretty much impossible to change his mind because he can't deal with the consiquences of opening his eyes.

[EDIT: to Bear] ^ Where do you draw the line where "sticking to the most basic principles is not worth it if a live can be saved"? Waterboarding is OK to you, I understood as much, but where do you stop? Think well, 'cause I'll come back with the "but if it saves lives!!" card. ;)

Our society is not built around "but if it's saves lives, fuck those principles", and that is a good thing. Innocent until proven guilty is a principle that has probably cost quite a number of lives, but I guess you wouldn't want to give that up. Or another one... I guess you, as a conservative, are not fond of the idea of free healthcare for everyone, because it contradicts your idea of personal responsability. But hey, think of all the lives it might save... are your principles really worth it?

Just to clarify....the suffering is all just implied.

The subject being waterboarded isn't actually 'suffering' from anything.

Personally I think it is a brilliant method to extract information. It works very, very well. And the subject is not any worse for wear afterwards.

I'm not going through the moral calculus of every military situation on earth with you.

I find torture reprehensible, you don't, we part ways on the subject.

Depends on what kind of principles you think should be employed during a time of war.

Exactly. "Torture" is illegal and yet this supposedly illegal act is carried out on U.S. Citizens as a matter of course.

    It don't compute.

Of.....and you'll note Dicky is now down to the last resort of name-calling.

Given that he's right about everything, clearly disagreeing with him makes you an idiot.....or maybe he's just out of bullets.

Now you're really acting like a moron.

What do my children have to do with this?

    Troll.

    Why are you getting offended?

It wouldn't leave them any worse for wear.

Seems to me, it'd be more efficient then time out, and less harmful than spanking then.

If it's such a fuckin harmless walk in the park, I wonder how it's supposed to make some cold blooded terrorist talk.

    Certainly seems like it.

Its not illegal either....didn't the Justice Department deem it legal?

Dicky makes it seem like the CIA uses it with every terrorist they capture. The article I posted clearly stated that it was only used as a last resort. And in all three instances, it worked.

    Hard to argue with results.

But hey, until I try it on my kids, I shouldn't agree with it. Love the screwed up hippie logic. :spaceturk:

May you always continue to live in your pastel world with padded corners where bad things never happen. I'm sure such a world has no need of regrettable things to happen.

Sadly.....the real world ain't pastel and padded.

None of us (except actual psychopaths) WANT to live in a world where any bad thing ever happens to anyone. We don't want to live in a world where waterboarding is ever necessary.

Doesn't keep the more realistic among us from recognizing the world is not always how we wish it to be.

Some folks can deal with the dichotomy.....some withdraw into denial.

    And thus, we part ways.

Do you even know what it is?

Perhaps you should educate yourself on the subject at hand before your post foolish crap.

Does waterboarding inflict pain on the subject?

Ah, finally, the "time of war" that makes it all different. Well, this diffuse "time of war" is going to stay for some time, so the principle suspended for the time being might just as well be considered given up alltogether. But I know. It's war, and any analogy to principles in "normal" live is thus void. :jayzus:

Can you point out where someone who has used the methods says that it inflicts pain?

    Thats your opinion.

You think its immoral....cause its torture, I don't.

Unlike Dickyboy....you're not an idiot though; your concerns are easy to understand.

You have no idea what torture is.

What methods of interrogation do you support?
