I don't know. And neither do you. All we know for sure is that there is no physical damage. Again, what methods of interrogation do you agree with?
It tortured me when this one girlfriend dumped me....should I sue? Hey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! It tortured me when Firefly was canceled!!!! I'm calling my Lawyer in the morning!! This is a slam dunk!!
Protecting basic human rights isn't pandering. All you have is a rehash of the old "But all my friends are doing it!" canard not a parent in the world ever fell for, you've just replaced "my friends" with "the terrorists". Islamic fundamentalists are not the moral yardstick for our society. We can no more torture because Islamists do than we can start forcing women into burkas and executing gays for the same reason.
I never said torturing all Islamic Fundamentalists. I am offering a situation in which known enemy forces very well have information that could drastically minimize damage on your side. Call me crazy, but I think waterboarding is warranted in cases like these. Human rights are great, but human deaths (especially my side) are not so great. Am I placing greater value on American lives than Islamic rights? I this case yes I am.
There's part of the problem. You're wanting the results, but are restrcting the tools used to get those results.
Because some people believe you can have it both ways - that we can keep our troops safe while not inconveniencing the bad guys. That we can reason with and negotiate with them, and appeal to their common decency in a sense. Good luck with all that. I think (Hell, it's a fact) America treats its captives more humanely yet effectively than at any point in history. There's a fine balance btween being humane and being effective, and I think we handle that well for the most part. Regardless, I don't see anyone else stepping up to the plate.
I smell a lot of white guilt coming from somewhere. I wish the United States didn't have to please so many different groups. A little torture never hurt anyone.
I sure don't have any white guilt - because I know the US military employs and teaches job skill to more minorities than any other corporation. We also recruit immigrants from countries most of us have never heard of. So as far as I'm concerned the US doesn't have to go out of their way to please any country as long as they take care of anyone willing to defend it from within.
How will torture help with any one of these goals? Pick any that Diacanu named, and walk us through it.
That situation is true in all warfare. Do you think the Japanese and Vietnamese thought any different when they were torturing our soldiers?
Let me come out and say it - I would no more bitch at the Japanese for doing it to our soldiers under the same circumstances than I would bitch at the U.S. for doing it to them. these things are not decided in a vacuum
Or alternatively, worst. Consider this gem. Yay! "We're no worse then the people we hate for being savages" goodness! And this from the person lecturing me elsewhere on the righteousness of the US military.
Henry you're a picko socialist. Your opinion regarding the military or anything related doesn't count.
Wow, glad you agree that you're a shitty dual, but you're being a bit harsh on yourself by adding that bit. Well...you like torture, yeah, I guess you are..
