Actually, if it's pandering (as opposed to trying to have it both ways) he's pandering to the black vote which is VERY heavily opposed to gay marriage.

Translation: Polling data does not support Barry saying he supports gay marriage at this time.

I really wish he would. Many of his supporters are people who are in favor of gay marriage, myself being one of them. As long as he does support gay marriage on a civil rights level, then what he believes on a personal level is his business.
