Dayton for Mod!

But the way it's being talked about now -- a mod in name only, of a specific new forum whose name itself is mocking him -- is not any kind of meaningful gesture toward inclusion or doing things differently.

It is, as Dayton would say, not a good-faith gesture.

I did this once, when Starscape was its own separate board. I let a guy be an Admin for a few months because he always complained about how I did things. When nothing worked out like he wanted, he complained that it was too hard, so I returned his status to regular user. He began complaining not long after that he didn't like how I ran things. In short, I doubt anything will be learned by this, but it's not my thing, I just make things go.

Tafkats brought up a good point. Does there need to be a TK esque room with as few people that post here?

Eh, that's the purpose of discussing it in here. I'm not interested in doing it as a troll. I thought it might legitimately be an interesting and fun thing for the board. But if folks see it only ending up as a troll of Dayton, that is not the purpose. If it can only accomplish something other than the intended purpose, then let's not bother.

However, this is exactly the staleness problem that people complain about -- an unwillingness/fear of mixing things up. I want some fresh ideas. Maybe this isn't the right one for this moment, but the floor is now open for suggestions.

Make Castle mod

Call it "Gumpforge", have the base set of rules be those of the RR, but whomever is picked to be mod can add rules as they see fit. Next, randomly kick over an active thread from one of the other forums, save the Blue Room, to ensure that there's content. Announce the existence of the forum a week before it's created, and simply randomly pick who's going to be the mod, but don't tell anyone. This will add the extra hilarity of someone discovering that they're a mod by chance.
